I am glad you mentioned the " Good Blue spark" as I had a friend who`s old brit bike will not start so went and took a look at it and asked him if it had spark and he said yes, anyways I checked it and the spark was yellow ! not good, told him his coil had gone and he went and got a new one and yep it started second kick, so remember "Blue good, Yellow Bad"

"Its a bit smokey but its a old bike" 7 years later im still riding mine lol. Putter er back on the road after a few years in the shed. I like your technique, I learnt something

Thanks sooo much!! I have an old 1969 Triumph but basically the AAU unit and points are very similar. I have the repair manuals and I understand but I always prefer to get all the knowledge possible before tinkering, brings up my level of comfort and there are lesser chances of me messing up anything.

Hey u were right I played wif my honda xl100 today and the gap was to far out but I think my points wore out it costed 13 bucks it's better than 40 thx for your help

Great video thanks. Had question. I'm working on a '73 Xl been sitting for a long time, got it started. Starts right up idles smooth but when under load (riding while accelerating) it runs really rough do you think this could be the mechanical advance? Also I am not running it with a battery can I test with VOM meter without battery? thanks j

+Johnny Mansour Disconnect the voltage regulator so that when you rev it up it doesn't put a load on the stator and cook your lighting coil. you might want to use it later. Here's a couple of video's on that particular bike on how to set the timing and check the advance, and how to make an air filter for it, because that could make it run poorly if it is old and deteriorated.
