Motorcycle Shop Makeover! Fresh Paint and More Organization for the shop to be more efficient and look even more professional! This was a much needed update with my workspace and what a transformation it has made!
The goals here were to create a more professional look while also helping the overall look on camera. The wood has been making video editing more difficult with the strange color changes between my phone and gopro. The gray has fixed that! While the shop had to be completely disassembled so to speak for painting it was the perfect time to reorganize and make some further updates to make better use of my space as well as to prepare for planned tool additions.
I used a Kils oil based primer and then basic water based paint all from Lowes. I'm not a paint guy so I can't give you more info than that. My shop is 12x18 and I used exactly 3 gallons of primer and 2 gallons of color but this includes painting the ceiling and inside all the rafters.

Hey everyone before the comments start rolling in about it I wanted to let you know that I wear a respirator a lot along with running my exhaust fan. I make some jokes about the fumes but they are just jokes as I try to be safe when possible. Don't take it too seriously.

Shop looks awesome, I just went through this too, not to that extent with the painting though (grey looks 👍) but more with the organizing and the Feng shui as you say . and getting stuff onto wheels! Always jealous of the plywood walls, makes moving stuff around like that easier I'd say.

@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Trond! For the door I am not planning on painting as I don't want to lose any heat reflective abilities of the foil backing. It helps keep heat in and the hot out in the summer. Until I painted the shop not one person commented on the door lol.
@scottb8175

Hey BJ. Do yourself a big favor and keep your new lathe covered when you are media blasting or spray painting. Same for the motor on your drill press and, whenever possible, compressor (the compressor intake could be ducted from outside if you are in a fairly warm climate). I offered up my experiences to help my friends arrange their shops too. Mainly, keep the machines away from dust and grit. I've blown machine motors a few times in the past (getting replacement motors is a royal pain in the ass, BTW) and prematurely wore out compressor pumps too. Now I don't do any blasting, paint, or bodywork in my main shop. Also, now that I have more machinery and precision instruments in my shop, I actually do bike bodywork and paint in a properly ventilated spare room in my basement, and do all my media blasting in a smaller separate building just a few yards from my garage door. A new 30x50 shop is in the future when I have enough $$$$ saved. It will have completely separated areas for the clean and messy / dusty processes. Also, having a separate supply of fresh clean solvent for the parts washer is good for when you are putting engines together.

That heater you have hanging looks almost identical to the one I put in my shop. I had to run a 220V 30amp power to it, but it heats my 25'X25' shop with with no problem. So if yours is the same power it must be able to run you out of there with excess heat. I need to get some of those torch hangers. mine are always toppling off a shelf and then they fall and bend. Glad to see there's a solution for that. You must have a shed to put bikes in you're not working on so they don't crowd you out. Or maybe inside your trailer.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Same heater for sure and it absolutely will run me out! It works really well. I had a video over a year ago where I slipped and knocked a torch off my bench. A friend saw that and bought me those torch hangers lol. I keep the rest of my parts and bikes at a warehouse nearby. The linked video shows all of that! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fL6HmLOZzbKRhmw.html

My 50-ish year old high school welding shop teacher customized and painted hundreds of cars and bikes in the 60's and 70's without proper respirators. He'd tell you all about every one of those old street rods and choppers he painted. He'd tell it to you over and over, too - just like you had never heard the story before. He'd also forget what your name was about six times in a short conversation and had trouble finishing sentences....still a damn good welder, though.

@@BrickHouseBuilds Yep, I saw it. Just had to add to it anyway :-). Besides, big difference between today's house paint and automotive paint from the 60's and 70's. There are reasons why solvent based and lacquers aren't used much anymore 👍

I was getting ready to make a Michael Angelo Sistine Chapel reference when you were painting the ceiling but you beat me to it. I like the grey with the orange accents, it looks good. Is it possible to to cover that silver PolyPro insulation on the door? That's the only part that feels unfinished.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
I knew I HAD to include that reference while painting the ceiling lol 😆 It's funny as in the last year I haven't had a single comment on the garage door but within this video its the main comment focus. As Ive mentioned in other comments I dont want to risk losing any heat reflective properties of that foil outside layer. The garage can get cold and I worry about heat loss. I do agree that it looks meh at best but I like being both warm in the winter and cool in the summer
