This video gives an overview of using dual carriageways and motorways. It is aimed at provisional licence holders prior to or in training, but may be a useful refresher for full licence holders too.
The content is not exhaustive, but highlights some common areas which may have safety implications, particularly for motorcyclists.

I have my mod 2 in 3 days, the advice you are giving is so valuable and unique, you explain in a way that tells me how to deal with and come up with solutions to bespoke situations instead of just memorising every scenario and regurgitating it into my ride. Brilliant

@Anthony Fairbanks Hi, thank you for letting me know your good news, 1 minor is a great result, well done, very pleased for you. I am glad my videos helped, of course you had to do the hard work though! Enjoy your motorcycling and your big bike, ride safe and if I can help in future let me know. All the best.

I always pass slip roads in lane 2 to give joiners space. It’s good manners and safer.

Another great instructional video. People seem to think they don't need instruction on this sort of subject but when you see the standard of driving on our roads and think how vulnerable motorcyclists are then you realise how important all round observations and situational awareness are. The thing that really concerns me on any road but particularly fast roads is tailgating so if you're in lane 2 pull into lane 1 and let them pass. Of course you should only be using the outer lanes to pass slower vehicles anyway. Other things I regularly see - you mentioned that traffic on the carriageway has right of way but so many times you see drivers forcing their way into the main carriageway causing other vehicles to take evasive action. Finally, you mentioned drivers cutting across the front of you up a slip road at high speed. Scary. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you MGman 100 for your comments, some very valid observations there. It should be so easy to use roads safely shouldnt it?! All the best

@@MotorcyclePWR Riding in wet and windy conditions was my worst fear many many years ago.
@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR 2 жыл бұрын
@@keithsimpson a lot of people dont like it, a lot of fear stemming from insufficient knowledge and lack of experiencing such conditions to the degree of getting used to them. naturally there is risk in such weather, but with training and practice confidence can gained. Modern tyres are better than those of many years ago assisting with the rain/grip issues, and improvement in comfort levels with modern kit is helpful. Trying to relax and not tense up helps the bike do its job, and with the wind you just have to be mindful of risk and be able to use your body to counteract its effects. I hope that you are more comfortable now in such conditions. Ride safe.

Really good video, I cringe sometimes when I see bikes hanging around in blind spots as it's just asking for it. I always say to new riders your paying for the road so take command of your lane or someone will push you into the gutter. I fully agree about being on small and under powered bikes on duel carageways 👍

Are cbt holders able to go on a dual carriageway that turns into motorway for a short period of time?
@MotorcyclePWR

Hi Hannah, no, sorry, motorcycle provisional licence holders are not allowed to ride on motorways at all.

Hi, slip roads entering a dual carriage way, is the speed limit 70mph and can you go straight to the right hand lane of the slip road to increase mirror views up the dual carriage way as early as possible?
@MotorcyclePWR
@MotorcyclePWR 8 ай бұрын
Dual carriageway slip roads will be 70mph as any national speed limit road fitting the dual carriageway definition. I would not routinely use a right hand lane to solely enhance mirror views, especially if there were other vehicles around. I would use it if it provided an advantage without compromising safety or lane discipline issues. All the best

hi, A roads are fine; M and A *(M) roads are not as provisional licence holders are not permitted, except for car learners with a qualified ADI. HTH
