Back in the late seventies I converted a CB400F in to a cafe bike, with better shocks, fork springs and a bikini fairing. It was a scary/fun bike to ride, but I was young back then, and ignored the scary part. I had no idea that Honda continued making and developing these great little bikes until now.

We will get two new, single cylinder 400cc bikes from Triumph/Bajaj next year. Based on the specs and reviews out of India, they both look like great bikes in their class. However, when I asked my local Triumph dealer what he thought they would cost here out the door, he said his best guess was around US $8,000! That's about $5,000 more than they cost in India! Given that, we should not be surprised that the manufacturers choose not to ship a lot of great bikes to our country.

I have a buddy who got a CB1300SF imported from Japan. He paid $7000 to a lawyer to get imported and approved through Customs in addition to its price of $12,600. What a lovely bike. It looks an epitome of a full figured complete Honda. Such a legacy of a bike. Me I did not have the money to do the same thing so after 5 years of him doing that I got myself a brand new 2019 CB1000R and when we both go out riding on our bikes we look like outcasts and extra terrestrial 😃😁

HONDA NT1100. The sport/touring version of the popular Honda Africa Twin. It's very good, leaning toward more touring than sport. Half the price of a Goldwing but superior in many respects. HONDA XADV. The same platform of the Honda NC750X but in "scooter clothes". It's astonishingly and surprisingly good. I'm an American living overseas and I own both these bikes. American motorcyclists are sadly missing out on the wonderfully capable and fantastic machines.

US riders have about a five times higher fatality rate than European riders, per capital, per mile, or per trip. Of course, US drivers have the same five times higher death rate than Europeans do. Curiously, European and US highway deaths are about the same. Rather, most people being killed in the US are from urban highways/arterial roads, something that Europe strongly avoids.

I’m Japanese and I ride a CB400SF in Australia so I can comment about CB400SF. We use CB400SF in ridding school which is non-vtec and around 32HP in Japan. So many riders used to avoid CB400SF because the weight (200kg+ accessories) is too heavy so if you can purchase $2-3k before 2020, you could buy CB400SF Revo (2009-2012) with 10,000km as second-hand. However, the price has changed since the production was officially finished in 2022. The brand new price of CB400SF is roughly 884,400 yen (approx 5955 USD) and CB400SB is 1,084,600 yen (7338 USD), but second hand price tag is often more expensive than the brand new price tag if the bike mileage is less than 20,000km. The bike price is going to crazy, to be honest. Meanwhile, Australian market isn’t interest in CB400SF so I could buy it 3,000USD with 13,000km on the clock and full maintenance history in Australia. The bike requires 91 octane unleaded petrol and 24km/per a litter is very good fuel efficiency, I will keep my bike. My English may not great enough to comment here due to studying English in Australia tho.

I live in a country where the CB400 Super 4 is offered and is very popular. I can safely say it is a bike that does not make any economical sense. It being a Honda inline 4 makes it very expensive. It is just very slightly better in terms of performance compared to the MT-03 and costs as much as a MT-07 which would beat it soundly in terms of performance. The only thing going for it is the the inline 4 sound.

Though we will most likely see this bike in 2024, to me the most obvious current omission from the US market is Honda's CB750 Hornet. I certainly can't seen any reason it wouldn't be perfect for the US or Canadian markets and a better bang for the buck option than anything similar and currently available here.

I like the 400cc inline 4s, but I still don't understand why someone (looking at you Triumph🤨) doesn't build a 450cc triple cylinder bike. It would be smoother with more power at high rpms than something like the CB500 or Ninja 400 twins, but with more low end torque than a 400cc four cylinder. Imagine an engine with 50% more power and torque than a Ninja 300 engine that can sing that triple cylinder song to a higher rpm. In addition to the naked and sportbikes with such an engine, Triumph could even make an ADV version called the Tiger Cub specifically for beginners or smaller riders who want to go on adventures with the big boys, but can't handle a full sized Tiger.

They didn't go for outright HP numbers, but the broad HUGE spread of torque from the 1300 can be felt everywhere no matter what gear you're in. I have a 2009 CBF1000A and it's the same deal. HP numbers aren't anything to write home about, but the insane amounts of torque on tap could pull a house behind it.

Moving to Thailand - CB 400 Super Four all the way. Even that's a bit on the large size for city riding there, considering the amount of stop and go and wear and tear on the wrist, clutch, and brake... but sometimes ya gotta say 'Fuck it!'.

You can actually ride any bike in Thailand. If it's traffic you are concerned about than check out the Honda ADV 350. Yes, it's a scooter but with CVT, your clutch hand won't get fatigued. It's comfortable, practical and good all-rounder. Very popular here.
