Hello there and thank you so much for a this amazing information! This is exactly the kind of content I’ve been searching for! I plan in the future to purchase an RV/motor home and ship it to Europe from America. Did you mention that there is a weight restriction for a motorhome in Europe to be legal to drive it? And I would be very interested in more detailed information about the solar panel , the 200 watt inverter , and also the propane gas connection they did for your vehicle, also the washing machine is amazing. How long is your RV? Do you find it hard to park at times or do you think you could handle a longer RV as for as finding parking? Please please keep up the great work on providing content about your adventures! You two are great and I really appreciate your hard work!

Hi Cindy! Welcome and thanks for the lovely comments :) The motorhome scene in Europe is HUGE and I'm not sure about the U.S. but compared to Australia, Europe prices are considerably better and you get a lot more value for money here. Also, many people only use their motorhomes once a year so you will find loads of them for sale here with very low km's on the clock. Do your research to ensure you can register/drive a U.S. motorhome here without costly modifications. I know in Australia gas (LPG) certification is different and requires re-fitting/modification, as does power obviously: U.S. is 110 volt and not compatible! (Australia is 240 volt, Europe is 220 volt). I expect you would need a separate large inverter to convert power from 220 to 110 if you did have to plug in to mains power here at anytime - if the authorities will let you drive it here in the first place. The weight restriction applies to a standard car licence and is 3.5 tons. Above that weight you will need your equivalent to a heavy vehicle licence. The solar panel is 140 watt capacity and has proved perfectly matched with the 2 x 900 amp hour deep cycle "house" or "leisure" batteries we have. The 2000 watt inverter was bought after much research and discussion with various suppliers about our requirements, and importantly is a "Pure Sine Wave" type and NOT a "Modified Sine Wave" variation. The latter can be destructive when used to power many things with DC motors, and they are generally less efficient. Don't be fooled into buying a Modified Sine Wave model, even though they are often half the price. Fitting an integrated LPG bottle and the associated safety switching is obviously a job for the licensed professionals, so I could only recommend speaking to an expert about fitting to yours. I will say fitting it was worth the initial cost, not only for the refill costs, but also for the convenience. Our motorhome is 7.2meters plus the bike rack making a total of around 8 meters. There are obviously much bigger units out there, but this is about as big as you can go under 3.5 ton, and I'd guess 90% of all motorhomes we've seen are shorter/smaller than ours. Anything longer than 6 meters won't fit in any standard length car park, and in many countries the car parks are shorter again. Having said that we often pull in and take up 2 car parks, and have rarely upset anyone in doing so. Do be aware: many of the streets you'll find yourself on were never built for motorhomes, and are considerably narrower than would be ideal. It's more the width than the length that can bring you unstuck. We once squeezed down a one way street in Dubrovnik with literally 2 inches to spare on each side to overhanging balconies, and no way to back out! If you're not experienced with larger vehicles you will find yourself in stressful situations at times - just take it slowly or you are likely to do damage! A tip here: Garmin make a motorhome specific GPS (for about 350 Euro from memory) that you can enter your motorhome dimensions in to, and it won't route you onto streets (or under bridges) you can't fit through. I hope this all helps. Feel free to ask should you have any more questions :) Dan & Dee

You have some really wonderful ideas but I especially like the washing machine in the garage. It makes perfect sense. Where do you fill your tank with water & offload the gray water?
@Danjuly71
@Danjuly71 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Colman. We use the apps to find dump points which are in most areas. Often we’ll use service stations (we always ask) and you’ll nearly always find a tap at cemeteries. In Croatia we stayed in the one spot for 2 1/2 weeks so everyday when we rode our bikes we’d each take 2 six litre bottles and fill them on our way back. We found 24 litres a day was enough for our needs (including washing). We captured the final rinse water (9 litres) to re-use for the first wash cycle of the next load. We would empty our grey water every chance we got, and didn’t use harsh chemicals. We used our outside shower to further limit filling the tank, and found if we knew it would be a while without a dump point we could even do a first washing up rinse without chemicals and tip it out the window! Thanks for the question 👍

hi great video, you mentioned you mostly wild camped for the 8 months but you hardly mentioned about how you powered stuff, ie what wattage is your solar panel , how many leisure batteries do you have and what amp/hours? ....this is the kinda info which would be very helpful to those contemplating doing the same...thanks for the vid :)
@Danjuly71
@Danjuly71 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Daren and thanks for your comment. We have a 140 Watt solar panel, and 2/ 90 amp hour deep cycle batteries (plus the "car" battery). This enables us to power everything we need, and we've even done 5 loads of washing on a (sunny summer) day without any trouble at all... The inverter is importantly a "pure sine wave" 2000 watt high quality model. Pure sine wave inverters are significantly more efficient than modified sine wave types, and also provide a much better power source for (in particular) anything with a motor. Our inverter also has an alarm and auto shut off in the event our batteries dip below optimal levels. I have fielded questions from a few people who are surprised that we can run what we do with what we have - all I can say is it works for us! The only "compromise" we make is that we never run the washing machine on a hot water cycle as this would obviously draw considerably more power (to heat the water) than the cold cycles we use. I trust this info helps Daren - please feel free to ask should you have any more questions, and happy traveling!! Dan

@Danjuly71
@Danjuly71 Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 Crossing in and out of Schengen countries is a always a bigger task than crossing borders within the Schengen zone (which is often simply achieved without even stopping your vehicle)… I don’t really have any tips other than to expect border officials to cross their T’s and dot their I’s; As we racked up more and more countries and time in the zone, they took more time to ensure we hadn’t overstayed our 90 days in 180 days limit. My understanding is if you do overstay you can be subjected to a ban of up to 2 years, although I do believe that is for extreme cases…

Do you switch off the gas valve before filling with lpg?

No - it has built in cutoff valves in the case of an emergency and so is treated exactly the same as a car that runs on LPG.

Hi! I'm a new subscriber. I have been living off grid van life for a whole year now and was wondering about the washing machine. What is the power consumption per cycle and what volume of water are you using? Also it looks like a very small solar panel - how do you manage to charge 2 batteries AND use a hairdryer, washing machine and the cooking gadget? Is there something I am missing. Many thanks :)
@Danjuly71
@Danjuly71 4 жыл бұрын
Liam Forrester Hi, and welcome! The washing machine is a standard domestic machine and uses about 20 litres per wash. We sometimes recycle the final rinse cycle water for the next wash cycle (about 9 litres) by capturing the drainage into a bucket and the simply pouring it back in where the detergent goes for the next wash. We generally wash in the middle of a sunny day, or when we’re driving to aid in battery charging, and only ever use the “cold” wash. The panel is 140 watt. We have 2 large “house” batteries of 120 amps each, and a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter. The modified sine wave inverters are very inefficient and would definitely drain the batteries too much so avoid them. Rarely, the inverter would give a warning “beep” if the power consumption was too high for the batteries’ capacity, and if that happened we would simply start the motorhome to supplement the solar recharge with the engine’s alternator. Hope this helps 😊

@@Danjuly71 Incredible! Since watching your video I have been looking online and I've found a nice 6kg machine I think I'm going to go for 😄 Thank you so much for replying. I have 200W of solar but only 1 x 100Ah AGM battery...it sounds like I should invest in another! Also I have a 2000W Pure Sine Wave inverter but I am really scared to use it incase it drains my battery, but watching this video and reading your reply has made me feel so much more confident in using the inverter- especially as the sunny summer months roll around! 😊 Thank you so much and Happy & Safe travels!
@Danjuly71
@Danjuly71 4 жыл бұрын
Liam Forrester I would definitely research the power drainage of a 6kg machine. Ours was a 4kg. I once blew the fuse (unrelated) between the two house batteries and immediately when we tried using the inverter the alarm sounded as it didn’t have enough power with only 1 to draw from.
