I unlocked the motorhome, which is a 2021 A Class Mobilvetta K-Yacht 79, a couple of days ago but the door wouldn't open at all. We were locked out!! Fortunately I could go in through the cab door and the catch still worked from the inside. So it was time to go exploring and dismantle the hab door mechanisms to see if we could find the problem and repair it !!

Thanks for watching Chris and glad it was useful 👍 Yes the plastic versus steel isn’t a good mix for things like that!! The doors are used across loads of moho brands so hopefully you’ll get spares 🤞🚌

Haha true that Phil - my moho toolbox has been getting bigger as I add more tools ‘just in case’ when we are on the road 😂😂. I had the full compliment in the garage though :)

Thanks for taking the time to record this and well worth the effort of DIY.I suspect the plastic housing was broken when in the locked position and the handle forced from the outside.

Thanks again for the video. An important lesson it teaches us all is that if we pull gently on the handle and it doesn't open, don't pull hard because doing that is putting excess strain on the plastic which will split it.

Excellent coverage. Many thanks for posting this. I was able to spot the crack in the silver plastic by shining a torch thru the tiny slot between exterior handle and black surround thanks to your video. I can confirm mine is the same on a 2020 F series Auto-Trail. I also thought it was stretched cables but the interior handle works fine and this got me going in the right direction.

@@motorhomingadventures I have located the part in New Zealand (thats where I am) going to give the swap over a go soon. Once I have replaced it might consider wether it could be copied in stainless steel rather than plastic as it looks to be a major weakness considering you pull on it several times daily.

@@kevinriley1346 yes definitely a weak point - we’re being a lot more gentle with ours now!! Love New Zealand - I’m jealous. Last there in 1991!!! 😍

Brave man, does not look very robust in the way it is made under that panel. I can understand why you did not get it done under warranty as we have been waiting now over 6 months for some warranty claims. Amazing all the parts were ready at the same time and expected in next couple of weeks, so booked in with Marquis for 4 days. Not Marquis fault, seems Mobilvetta just do not care but luckily not stopping us using it. One learning curve for me with being new to Motorhomes is how very poor after sales seems to be from Mobilvetta.

Yes it can be a real lottery at times Paul - I've not had any problems yet at Tewkesbury or with any warranty work - and Tewkesbury have allowed me to use local approved places in Tenby where that was possible. Marquis Tewkesbury were great with the door parts and even 'face timed' so I could show then the parts I needed and 24 hrs later they arrived by post. Fingers crossed that luck continues. When you stand back and look at the build though there isn't much to them at all - a reliable Fiat Ducato chassis used for years on 70% of mohos that serves us well (fingers crossed) and then a fairly basic wooden structure internally all of which can be taken apart. I recently bought a couple of spares to carry in the van as 'just in case' spares so have some pipe joints and a water pump and a few other bits - hopefully never needed !! @@MightyQuin61 we have local camp site shops that can order anything in for you as a lot of the shops use a company called Nova Leisure for their supplies. I took a photo of the existing pump under the floor and they sorted it. Yours is probably a SHURflo of some sort :) I bought a spare because with no pump you lose a fair few systems !!

Congratulations Bob on a job well done 👏👍. At least you do not have the problem with the central door locking that I have at the moment, contacted Burstner in Germany for wiring Schematic a couple of days ago but still waiting on a reply.

Oh no but fingers crossed you can resolve it - I do t think I paid anything for it as I saved them some labour time!! They are about £99 on EBay uk but here’s a bit more info below that I posted to someone else’s comment - Hartal supply for loads of different moho brands : Hartal Evoline Habitation Door Handle (left hand or right hand opening depending on what you’ve got) and Hartal use a Zadi lock Barrell (not an FSC Barrel) on Motorhomes. (You’ll remember I just re-used my existing barrel) Hope that helps :)) and good luck with the repair

In case anyone is wondering what else might cause this problem, I have now found on mine that the top door latch was rubbing against the inner door plastic, thus preventing the latch from moving freely. The rest of the mechanism is fine. I would do a video, but my upload speed is zero point eight of a mb/s so it would take 20 hours to upload. KZfaq is not a thing I can upload to.

Really great video, Bob. Even though the vans are made all over Europe so many parts seem to be the same. I am currently tackling the same problem on my Adria. Only stripped the inner part so far so can't be sure that its the chrome plastic handle which is cracked but all the signs are that it is the same issue as you had. Do you know whether your door is a Hartal door and do you know what the name of the handle was (or maybe a part number) Was it an Evoline by any chance?. I would like to just replace mine without stripping it down any further but I'm not sure what I should order as a replacement. Adria are no better than Mobilvetta so I'm hunting round for a different supplier rather than going through the dealer. Any help identifying it would be really useful. Thank you. John.

Hi John and many thanks for that feedback - glad it’s of use and the door is a Hartal (printed on the door glass) but I don’t know the part numbers. If you can wait I’ll ring my dealer tmoz and ask them what it was they supplied so I can get the number for you - I didn’t keep any paperwork. I reckon you’re right on it probably being a universal product to many vans :)

He face timed you? I hope you asked him to apologise. How insulting! (By the way what is face timed anyway? Being a 'Not A Teenager' I am assuming it is a punch in the gob or something similar?) That's a clearly not fit for purpose door handle, and the fact that an Italian part was in stock sounds as if it is a normal replacement part. Very annoying. I have taken my Hartal door apart to find what is causing it to refuse to open. It's not the same as yours but thank you for the helpful video. I will pay special attention to the handle mechanism to see if the pivoting part is cracked.

I can remember owning 15 motorhomes, and there must be others I have forgotten about. 98% of them are badly built to standards that would never be tolerated in a regular production car. My current one, less than 4 years old has had 4 owners before me and finding all the faults on the habitation part makes me realise why the previous owners got rid of it. I on the other hand am setting about fixing all the faults because I like the layout and the base Mercedes chassis.
