As a child growing up in the 1970s Blue Peter was must viewing, especially the Christmas episodes. John Noakes was a superb presenter. I loved also watching him & Shep in his series, Go With Noakes. And when later in life I found out he was ill then passed away a little piece of my childhood went too. Sad day. Great man. 😐

John Noakes was fearless as Peter Purvis said. I never forgot him climbing Nelsons Coloum without ropes or any safety harness. He was a brave man. I also loved to hear him laugh as he had such a hearty laugh. He loved his dog Shep. Blue Peter was one of the best TV shows ever and John was a very big part of that show. He has left us all with fond memories.

John Noakes and his dog, Shep, made the perfect duo. I remember well John being unable to talk about the death of his beloved dog due to being so emotional. They were both part of my childhood and really are sorely missed. Rest in Peace John Noaks and Shep. Thanks too for making this fantastic film.

DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES I grew up watching Blue Peter. People can tell you your age when you tell them who you grew up watching as presenters on Blue Peter. My three were John Noakes, Peter Pervis and Valerie Singleton. So yes I am in my late 50s, I can remember Petra and Shep bring introduced on to the show. Living in accomation where I could not have pets especially a dog I grew up with those two dogs and was broken hearted when each of them passed on. I was equally heartbroken when I learned of her death of John "Get Down Shep" Noakes. May he rest in eternal peace with Shep.

I tell you what. Nowadays you have people such as Tom Cruise doing his own stunts and getting paid an absolute fortune for it. Yet here was John back in the 60's and 70's doing crazy things just for the entertainment of young people on a BBC TV show. (I'm sure adults watched it too. My mum did). And I bet he was paid peanuts. Of all the people who have hosted Blue Peter over the years, John stands out for me. He was the only reason I watched it when I was a kid to be honest. He had a way about him that was great viewing. And anyone who remembers him will never forget his catchphrase. "get down shep". Great video as ever. Nice one! 👍

I live in a beautiful seaside town in the north west of Ireland called Portstewart. My claim to fame is that one beautiful afternoon when i was only about 12 i was walking my little terrier Kelly along the top promenade of our main street ( there was a bottom promenade also which ran beside but about 15 feet lower than the top one) now Kelly, although loved by my family, was a bit of a terror and hated other dogs, and as i walked him (keeping in mind those days no one really had a dog on a lead) he took off like a rocket, down the steps to the lower promenade. I could hear dogs fighting and ran over to look down. There i saw a crowd of people who had obviously been walking along when my dog decided to fight with theirs. Now Kelly was a tiny little thing and i could see that the dog he was challenging was a border collie and by this stage both dogs had separated and neither were injured, but thats when i noticed John Noakes in the middle of the crowd! My dog had fought Shep! I was as mortified as only an almost teenager could be and being a fan of Blue Peter and Go with Noakes there was no way i was going to admit it was my dog who was the rogue in the scenario so i just walked off, very red faced and pretending i didnt know whos dog had been so naughty, and left Kelly to make his own way back to me, which of course he did looking very sheepish. i told that story but i dont think anyone believed me and i suppose it really isnt my claim to fame but Kellys! Kelly is gone over 40 years now but i still smile at the thought of the day he fought the famous Shep!!

Rhonda, you missed your chance. You could have drawn an enormous breath and then bellowed 'get down shep' but being serious wasn't a shame that you didn't get to meet say hello to him. I think because she were young I can imagine you would feel very embarrassed. But I bet he would have been fine about it. Dogs will be dogs 🤣😂 anyway, it's a nice story apart from the growling and barking. And at least you can say You met the two of them. John was a super guy. It was Richard holding the camera. He's been on some of my other videos. I shouted him but he don't get paid. It's good teamwork... And I do spend a lot of time in the van. You're right, It's better than The bricks and mortar you can always make a run for it..... Cu Alan

Hello Terry, no I don't but during the summer this year I spent 50% of my time and I'm enjoying it and finding it more natural. How is it for you and how long have you lived full time? Alan

John Noakes and Jack Hargreaves played a very significant part in my formative years as did Valerie Singleton for whom I had the very serious hots. What was the futuristic looking car at 4.54?

He was 83. Gary, so I guess he had a reasonably long life but unfortunately at Alzheimer's at the end which was a sad ending. He was found in a tunnel. He'd wandered away from home. All the best all the best, Alan
