New Show, Roadkill Garage! 3-Day Engine Overhaul
This is the pilot episode of an all-new show that will be appearing exclusively on MotorTrendOnDemand.com monthly in 2016. This episode is here on KZfaq to give you a taste of Roadkill Garage so you can decide if you'd like to subscribe to MotorTrendOnDemand.com to watch it (and a whole bunch of other gearhead content). You can follow Facebook.com/RoadkillShow for updates and behind-the-scenes info.
Roadkill Garage features David Freiburger from Roadkill and Steve Dulcich from Engine Masters (but, don't worry, Mike Finnegan is still the co-host on Roadkill). RK Garage will show Freiburger and Dulcich wrenching on Roadkill project cars and other things that meet the Roadkill vibe. They'll show you how to do the wrong things the right way.
In this episode, the guys attempt a three-day overhaul of the 351 Cleveland engine from the '67 Mercury Cougar that belonged to Freiburger when the show began, but that transferred to Dulcich before the shoot was over. The "rebuild" is not exactly kosher, but it's dirt cheap and generates good tire smoke!

Hey Dave Freiburger, I have a tip for all you guys. I have long lost count on how many coolant blasts I've watched you guys do.. ALL OF YOU!!! There is a simple solution to not getting coolant all over everywhere and having to spend the time to clean it up and work in it... Are you listening????? Ok, take a 2 foot long piece of 3/8ths tubing, (copper works very well), and a piece of rubber hose that you can squeeze onto one end of the tubing. Bend about a 90* hook in the end of the tubing that has the hose on it. Grab a few containers to catch the coolant. Slip the raw end of the tubing into the radiator and sink it to the bottom of the rad tank. Suck on the other end of the hose to start the siphon. Drop the end of the rubber hose into your container and drink a beer!!!!! This is a very simple tool to make, so you can make one for ALL the guys who we watch CONSTANTLY douching shop floors, parking lots and the occasional friends driveway... lol.. AND you can carry one with you each time you go on a ROADKILL adventure!!!! This doesn't do you much good on top tanks, but for all those General Masterbaters cars and truck you guys do, it will work just fine.... Love the shows!!! Ps. When are we ever going to see some of Dulcich's cars???

My son loves the zip tie plug wire loom. He's used it more than once and the guys at the Firestone store he works at have used it on their personal rides. He like myself have picked many tricks from Roadkill and refreshed our memory on some we had forgotten. This is why this show is so popular. You don't have to have a ton of money to enjoy the hobby. In my son's case it's a hobby and occupation. All he ever wanted to be was an auto mechanic. When he went to the local 2 yr. college the lady who assessed his test scores for the course(s) he had chosen told him with his math grades he could go into engineering. He told thanks just the same but his life revolved around turning wrenches. Damn good kid even though I guess I'm a little biased.

@TheSqeeek

Totally agree, really stupid to do all that work to put it back together with a trashed cam bearing. Especially since now every time you drive it you'd be thinking about how that bearing is about to go out. Guess that's what happens when you're doing it for a show instead of doing it because you actually want to keep the car going. I hope when they pulled it to do the flywheel they put a new bearing in it.

I LOVE that car I had one exactly like that one in the mid 70's except it had a 289 4 speed ,it originally had an automatic and was changed to the 4 speed without changing the gearing so it was a dog getting off the starting line but I wouldn't shift into 3 until the finish line of 1/4 mile. Of course mine still had good paint and no dents or rust. I traded in a 65 Mustang convertible with a 289 Automatic that I literally wore out street racing, I had to drive it 14 miles to trade it off and I had to stop and put oil in it. It was sold to the paper guy who drove it for a couple of years, it looked like a mosquito fogger going down the road. I would love to have both of those cars back today, I am 59 and when I had those cars I was 15-17. Thanks so much for this video I loved it. It reminded me of the way I had to keep those two cars running. I changed the tranny in the Mustang 6-7 times by myself sitting in front of our house, I actually got really good at it, jacked up the car climbed underneath unhooked and unbolted every thing and drop it on my chest and back out from under the car, Those were the days, I can't even change oil in my vehicles now due to arthritis I am guessing too much fun in the good old days.

As the owner of a sometimes-running '68, I'm so happy to see a Cougar made it to Motor Trend. I always assumed you guys were not FoMoCo guys. (I know the Stubby in Episode 44 was a Ford, but still)

Lol no. KZfaq subsidised the cost of the show to keep it on KZfaq for years as well as the dodge sponsorship. All that went and they had to do something to keep it going.

This feels so much like some of the junk me and my buddies used to get into! ...and some of the junk I still have in the driveway. Ha. Great show! I love that you're not in some spotless, million dollar garage stocked with half a million dollars worth of tools.

Holy crap! I just bought a '67 Cougar this spring with a rebuilt 351C in it! My paint job is a tiny bit nicer though. :) Getting the front end rebuilt, it was completely worn out.

Cougar question #3 obviously the engine has closed chamber heads, but a few things have me scratching my head.#1: 2 bolt main caps? Engine is a 72? Crankshaft looks to be a cast crank by the parting line. obviously the cast iron intake had a carb adapter plate on it to run the Holley Carb. Since the cylinder walls were not wore out beyond just a single ball hone, any over bore done previously? After going back a month later for fixes, What are the specifications on the camshaft used? Any spring upgrades done in the past? Are those new pistons? Stock " old fashioned ring package used? Any info on the carb? jets etc.Just rebuilt a 9.5 deck "Windsor" in a 1969 Cougar. The Ford 335 series engines can be very in a lot of ways. Roadkill Garage looks like it will be a success, so I guess I'm going to subscribe to Motor Trend on Demand. Since it is Roadkill Garage a little more information would be greatly appreciated.
