Motorway safety, the hard shoulder (UK public information)

from 1979, when the UK had hard shoulders to use, now they are part of the smart motorway relying on technology to keep us safe in event of breakdown.
Just another way of providing maximum road capacity at minimum price in my view, all at the expense of safety.....recent events have proved that.
A subscriber recently asked me, why are you now showing these public information films in batches, well it seems unfair that KZfaq attaches a 30 second advert on a 30 second video , so why not make it worthwhile .

Motorways are built for bumper to bumper traffic. Pull your Morris into the hard thing. Then get to the tellyphone. If you have a BL car it will be destroyed immediately.

Smart motorways are only as good as the people in the control centres the drivers and the technology, an extra lane on the cheap, what can go wrong.

If the maximum speed limit were 30mph, they would work... I wonder what the original designers of the motorways would make of the new smart ones, seems an odd sort of choice to call them "smart" when they are anything but, let's hope the government see sense and abandons the idea...

I think smart motorways should be banned, they are a danger to vehicle traffic.

I'm sure I read that after the recent spate of accidents on smarts they intend introducing things called laybys , now thats 21st century forward thinking for you. In short it's extra road capacity on the cheap, great until the tech breaks down or some driver is feeling drowsy , then carnage, I hear they are under review but I won't hold my breath.
