At 4:15 "That gives the Land Cruiser a rough terrain capability that few others have." Talk about understatement. Reviews like this compared vehicles based on things like interior space and engine power. But now that 27 years has passed we can compare the Land Cruiser, Cherokee, and Range Rover based on longevity. That produces a clear and obvious winner.

A drunk driver hit and totalled my '97. Crazy part is, I drove my "totalled" cruiser home. Not only that, I barely felt the impact! Awesome vehicle! 6 years later I found a '92. Not the year or motor version I wanted, but I love it now too. Not only is it still the same indestructible vehicle I once had, the so-called bad motor is pretty much ironclad (literally) and the cloth interior isn't prone to the classic Toyota hard leather cracks. It's still perfect. Only problem I have now is constantly listening to my 13 year old daughter's plans for "her" truck... Yeah right, over my dead... Dammit!!!

These are one of the best vehicles ever made! Look good and aged very very well, are very comfortable, can go almost anywhere, but best of all is that they are nearly impossible to kill The Land Cruiser itself, the engine, trans, everything is EXTREMELY well made and thought out, and could easily be the most reliable, dependable, and long lasting vehicle ever made! I wish Toyota could make many of their 80s and 90s vehicles again as I’d buy a brand new 90s Toyota in a heartbeat Nothing, not even the new Toyotas (some are close though) are as well made and reliable as the Toyota’s a few decades back. And this, the Land Cruiser, was probably the best Toyota of the time A 90s Land Cruiser could very well be the best Toyota ever made Ps. Honorable mention goes to the old school original Toyota Land Cruiser, and that is another I wish were still made and they were absolute tanks!

I think one of the big things the "J80" Land Cruiser offered here in the USA was full time 4wd, even at 70mph. It made this truck pretty damn unstoppable on snow/ice covered roads if you had the right tires on it. Yeah your Subaru can do the same stuff until it hits a snow bank and the extra ground clearance of a Land Cruiser plows right thru it.

Man I still see these 80 series on the road from time to time here in Bahrain and other Gulf countries. This is coming from a '99 FZJ100 owner.

Fun fact: some owners over here actually mod the piss out of these 4.5 1FZ-FE engines and race them against proper performance cars....for whatever reason. (J80, J70 and J100 came with the 1FZ engine in the Middle East at one point or another).

Would be interested in seeing MW do a 'check in" review of the LC and all the competition mentioned in the video...if they can even find any examples of the competition left running and road worthy! My '97 has 235K on the clock and shows no sign of quitting!

Love my 1993 LC, still drive her on the daily. Have added a few mods over the years for off road use and Bluetooth, Apple Car play but engine is still stock and at 206k still pretty smooth.

Contrary to most comments, and since I own both a 1995 LC and a 1995 RR .. This model deteriorated much worst than my 1995 RR !!!! Had to rebuild both engine and gearbox at 200k miles ... 220k on the Range Rover and still running fine !!!!!!

Fun Fact: Originally they wanted to use two Landcrusiers like this one for the movie JURASSIC PARK but eventually it was the two Ford Explorers that was used that everyone who saw the movie is familiar with.

I think Toyota had a problem with the way the vehicles would be portrayed in the movie, since the vehicles stop running (not the vehicles fault, the power was turned off and the cars were electric), I wouldve loved an 80 series in Jurassic Park. Could definitely hold up to a Tyrannosaurus Rex better than a Ford lol.
