I have nothing but respect for Berry Gordy

While talented, Berry Gordy was lucky and not from the projects. The trip to success is a little shorter when you have support and motivation. Thank You Gordy Family !

Wow this was so cool, informative, and so interesting. It really is a shame that most of these historical buildings are just gone. I completely agree there should be some type of markings for those areas. The Gordys, Motown, and Berry Gordy are American history and should be memorialized.

This is great information. Berry Gordy does not get the credit that he deserves as an important Black American historical figure. He was a business genius.

Thank you very much for presenting a story of the Gordy Family, including Berry, whose entrepreneurial spirit paved the way for Hitsville, U.S.A. to become Motown Records, and to give black singers, dancers, instrumentalists, and songwriters a chance to profit from their hard work without their work being exploited by white record companies, a common practice in 1950's America. At least, Motown was family, so to speak, by the way they watched out for each other. One of the greatest stories of not only Black excellence, but American excellence.

The Gordys was like the black version of the Rockefellers

Martha Reeves, Florence Ballard and my mother graduated from Northeastern High School---Go Falcons! Sugar Ray Robinson and Jackie Wilson learn how to box at Brewster Center.

Don't forget Jackie Wilson he was at the Flame and he was Great.

Raynoma's book read on Uptown Nay Rob channel. It's a good book. She was a very instrumental founder of Motown but Berry juked her into signing a document to remove her name from the company.

I agree there should be some type of landmark markings around Detroit for the Gordy family. They were such an inspiration to all. Especially Black people and our culture. A big impact for sure. Against all odds. God bless. A D.C. native.

I did not know that the Gordys' came from Georgia! Berry's parents were well educated and led, by example! Berry, had to succeed to make his dad and family proud! Now, he was slick on how he established himself by not paying his performers! He re-invested the money in his company and possibly his family business! Motown's, writers, artist, songs and stories, will always be legendary! And one, that I will always love! Good documentary! Thank you.. 💯🙌💯

I learned so much in this video I’m kind of disappointed my childhood was not as great in the Detroit area the 80’s and 90’s were rough. I see how much a great family can do for your self esteem I wish alot more people who grew up in Detroit could really watch this video. This was an excellent story! Black folk could really make things happen for themselves despite the hostile condition of the times! I just wonder why they started a company in a house and not a factory type building?

This is Black History Month Information that we should’ve learned in our history books & yes there should be some historical momentum’s enlisting of all the contributions the Gordy Family made to Detroit & to our American Black History. My parents used to always talk of Hastings Street, and my dad actually grew up in Black Bottom. I've really enjoyed this enlightening content thank you

I am an advocate of historical preservation. I definitely know some of the buildings that were knocked down should be still standing today. Please put markers up. The area could have been a tourist haven. I liked, admired and respect Berry and his accomplishments and his contributions to the music world. I attended the Marian Anderson Award program in Phila. at the Kimmel Center Verizon Hall where he was honored.

The Gordy Family were a established black middle class family! Which contributed of how the black family structure were determined and to move forward to operate a successful record company! Bernard Hendricks

Thank you very much for this look at Mr. Gordy and his family. It was very informative; this story should be told on a larger platform. It outlines the structures that were formulated that helped to enhance the growth of Motown. It also demonstrated how working together as a family helped with ensuring that the development of this organization was started with a strong committed solid foundation that its growth was built upon. Mr. Gordy's intelligence, his work ethics, along with his commitment to getting things done are the blueprints by which this great company was launched and grown. This history needs to be made known to the masses. It will serve as a tremendous example of what can be done if the commitment is there, and the leader possesses the vision, and knowledge to understand what they want to be.

Wow, I grew up listening to WVON radio in the 60s here in Chicago. Bill "Butterball" Crane was one of the DJs. I didn't know he had been on radio there in Detroit.

I sincerely enjoyed this video.Lot’s of great information.I was born and raised in Detroit, moved to Chicago many years ago. Worked at several radio stations in the Windy City. I hope more young people see this video. It shows what family and perseverance are all about. I grew up on 24th and Buchanan, Steveland (Stevie Wonder) lived down the street on Breckinridge and 23rd, before he started recording at Hitsville.

I am a 4th generation Gordy. It's not Barry Gordy, it's BERRY Gordy.

I love 💘 The Gordy. family. This was God's blessing, no man can take credit, This was God!!

It's not hard to see how he and Diana connected. While his family was better off financially, she didn't exactly come from a poor family.
