This is a 30 minute special on the Whole Enchilada trail in Moab, UT. Burro Down in a 30 mile odessey that is a worldwide classic. You’ll see everything the high desert has to offer.
Here is the link to the abbreviated 15 minute version of the trail:
• Mountain Biking the Wh...
Trails: Burro Pass, Hazard County, Kokopelli, Porcupine Rim
Obviously, I can’t film the whole trail. But with limited time, I picked up some drone and action cam footage in 8 hours. If you push the trail, it can be done anywhere in between 4 to 6 hours.
All riders, with follow cams gave verbal permission to release, thanks for riding with me.
This is the 30 minute special edition, I will follow up with a 15 minute super cut edition in the coming days.

The Crashing Dad Gnarmaste Sheyn! Lol this term was birthed at best slope coffee last winter. It’s a catch phrase I think I’ll use going forward! I think a comprehensive rev grip review is Crashing Dad material, I thought about doing a big review for it, but I think the crashing dad can do a better service to the community! Let me know what you think and maybe we can work something out.

Best advice you gave. Be one of the first to the top and one of the first to drop in from Burro Pass. I do this for several reasons. 1. I don't like people slowing me down. 2. It's gonna be a long ride, 5+ hours if you're taking pics. 3. If I have an injury/mechanical I know there will be several people passing me able to lend a hand if I need it.

Plan your time of year carefully, we hit it yesterday and it was hot! Take as much water as you can pack even if you have to strap extra to your bike! This trail is brutal, punishing, and extremely long! None of these videos will show you just how many uphill climbs there are. This trail will kick your butt literally! Plan for flats or mechanicals! Luckily we made it through without but the potential for breakdowns and injuries are high! Be extremely selective in line choice and give yourself ample time to enjoy all the beauty! Unparalleled scenery to take in. Take a dip in the river after that was rewarding!!! I took my downhill free ride bike and was able to pound the treacherous Jack hammer sections and really make up time but I had to push almost all the uphill :( this trail is so many things but if I can offer ant advice acclimate yourself and get other rides under your belt before hand get your body prepped, and pack snacks and hydration. We're going back in October I'll be taking a different bike lol Enjoy folks!!!

RC LeFevre it looks identical to that day the snow at the top of burro etc. And there was a guy with a drone. Did you by chance see two guys on fat bikes? They were riding with me and kind of a rare thing on that trail
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 6 жыл бұрын
I only saw one guy flying a drone in a grey and black shirt with yellow shorts, that would have been me. And yes, I absolutely remember the 3 riders with 2 riding fat bikes at the Porcupine Rim (if I can remember the 100 riders that day). I think I even said, "Nice fat bikes!". So yep I think we crossed path. This is your ride right here.

Our shuttle was at 815am that morning but we were going pretty slow about 6 hours in total. That is funny we talked to you and you were saying that you had to be careful because you only had limited run time on the drone battery and wanted a couple specific shots with it I watched you launch the drone on UPS. One of the dudes on the fat bike had a huge brim on his helmet like a sombrero you couldn't have missed him. What a small world!

Solid video! Loved it! People should definitely watch this before riding TWE. You did a good job summing most all of it up. I agree that Porcupine Rim is the best trail for capping it all off. That was an absolute riot. Glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't hit that UPS to LPS switchback drop in. Eric and his son Nate slayed that thing and I looked at it and all I could see was my wife shaking her head at me saying absolutely not. LOL. I'll get it next time. :) Stay tuned for mine and Eric's (RideLabs) TWE videos.

Good news and bad. The Bad, on most years no, the snow in the Alpine doesn't melt and the mud dry until July 4th unless there are drought conditions like there are right now. The good news is you can score a half enchilada in early may with Hazard county opening close to memorial day I think. The best time to ride is September-October when the snows is melted and its not ridiculously hot in Moab.

Great video, Sir! I'm riding it in early September this year. Looking back on the ride, is there anything you wish you did differently?
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 6 жыл бұрын
You're definitely picking a great time to go! If I were to do anything differently, I'd definitely like to ride it a bit faster! There are a couple creek crossing on burro, on my first ever WE I plowed through those and trashed my bottom bracket. Its good for a continuous ride, but not really worth the cost of changing it out. (I walked the creeks because of the GoPro in this ride). Finally I'd bring an extra pair of socks for hazard to help your feet dry out from those crossings. Thanks Flare Knux!

Do you use something like Slime sealant? Since my old mtb bike has tubes, I use Slime liners and that really keeps the flats away. Also, great video. I watched all of it and now know what I'm in for.
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 5 жыл бұрын
Yep! I've been running Orange Seal tubeless and recently I've been converting to Slime tubeless. I personally have never flatted on the WE, I run higher tubeless air pressure in Moab to protect my tires and hoops. Slime liners and a few extra psi are key to staving off some cactus and protecting from pinch flats so its a great idea all around! Thank ninemilliondollars!

Great video! Love the drone footage at the “view” on Hazard County. We must have been there the exact same day?! I took the first 7:30 am Thursday outerbike shuttle before the event weekend. Funny! The ride was great and really the perfect weather day. Great complete video of TWA and all the rigors of the trail. Brought back so many memories to list but as a fifty+ year old rider was one of the most fulfilling rides! I was pretty shot as that was my fourth day riding so a few tips for anyone planning to ride: Bring enough water, Gatorade and a protein shake. Yes protein shake! (Your body will burn protein, er muscle, on a 5+ hr ride). Great advise from videographer, wear pads! An a$$ over tea kettle fall will ruin your day. My motto is “live to fight another day” so if it’s your first time riding TWA walk the crazy stuff and enjoy the peddle back into town in one piece! Namaste and everyone hit Moab yoga! Be the mountain!

I'm a big fan of Whole Enchilada shuttles, you can book online and there is a parking area on the north side of town that makes the return to the vehicle the most convenient. Poison Spider nearby has a great selection of bikes, but there is so much in Moab, it really comes down to what you want. Outside of that, I day trip Moab and that's about all the substantive info I can give ya. Good luck! 1)WE 2)Mag 7 3)Captain Ahab 4)Slickrock that should be your priority.

@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 4 жыл бұрын
This trail is such a great progression trail. I can attest that I became better at riding MTBs after my first attempt down Porcupine. I think most importantly, just be prepared, have enough water and mechanical supplies like tubes and flat repair kits to keep you going. Ride what you can, walk what you have to, and have fun. That'll get anybody down!

Great Vid. So from start to finish, how long to do the Whole Enchilada ?
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jack, its going to to depend. I'd say average parties take 7 to 8 hours with lots of breaks, sessioning, sight seeing, flat repairs etc. If you're committed to pushing through and have no problems and get ahead of the line average rides can be 4 to 5 hours. If you get a chance to bomb it 3 hours. Depends on conditions and how fast you want to go.

Yeah man we rode it yesterday, we took lots of breaks and stopped for lunch and views, due to the heat and came out around 6-7 hours this trail is punishing to say the least but definitely a bucket list type adventure! Epic seems beautiful every style of riding but extremely brutal and long! I can't stop thinking about it though lol take plenty of extra water and then take more.

I think the EVO and the Feiyu tech are the like literally the same gimbal. The only difference is the EVO gimbal has a better warranty and supposedly "works" better? I don't know, but I've read some stuff suggesting that they are the same, but EVO provides a better warranty than FT at a higher price obviously.

What is the tape on cables for?
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 6 жыл бұрын
I like to run electrical tape on my cables, I think it looks good and cuts down on slapping noises. Just a little bit of customization, holds the cables in a constant place without sliding, and reduces clutter on the camera. The only downsides is as the tape wears out, it will kind of squeak, you can hear it in the video and also you have to cut it off to do any cable work.

Thanks Brendan Smith! Appreciate the support and the feedback. I kind of wished I had downloaded this in the highest quality, which I unfortunately didn't. But then again it might have been literally 100 GB and still uploading. Oh well, the rest of my vids were downloaded in the better format. Thanks man!

Whats up with all those other people walking sections?
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 6 жыл бұрын
Anthonyf those sections are a bit tougher in real life, but still it would be better if they were ridden. Surprisingly you’ll see a significant number of beginner or low tech intermediate riders out there. The black diamond rating doesn’t scare them off.

Ive ridden that trail before. I am aware of the difficulty. I just think they should try. Good work.

How long does it take to ride just Porcupine? And why didn't you stop to help the guy that went over the bars onto rocks? Asking "are you good" is not helpful.
@OutdoorGold
@OutdoorGold 3 жыл бұрын
If you ride Porcupine Down, it could be done in as little as 90 minutes and as much as 4-5 hours depending on how many breaks you take. I wouldn't jump to conclusions on not helping the rider that went OTB. There was probably 15 minutes of time that the camera was not rolling.

Why do you call this trail "The Whole Enchilada" ? Is it because an enchilada is so difficult to finish it ?

What bike are you riding? Do you think a 27.5 or a 29 would be better for this trail?
@OutdoorGold

I'm riding a 27.5 but a 29er would be optimal for WE. Give you some more rolling!

most riders have no idea how good some of these riders are . What these guys do is waay more difficult than it looks . I was doing mt. bike downhills back in the sixties on crappy old schwinn steel tube bikes and then upgraded as the bikes got better. But even with all of my experience , i would never attempt some of this shit.

@OutdoorGold

I think its slang for doing the whole thing. There are alot separate trails that are good by themselves, but riding them in one day is the best so its the Whole Enchilada!
