Hey ken if you try making one out of a drill bit get your handle piece and drll the hole first then work on grinding the smooth shaft end have a can of water to cool it every so often when your done heat it red hot and dip it into some old oil then you can sharpen it after that put it in the ove set at 400 for an hour then let it cool on it's own the only thing left is clean it up then let the whittling begin 😉

Have one question, about how far in did you go for the throat? or chin. Does not look quite half.

Happy to answer any questions! From the tip of the nose to the neck/jaw intersection is 1/2".👍✌
