A 130 pound cougar cornered me once in a bar in southern Ohio one Saturday night. I narrowly escaped when after I stopped buying her drinks, I ran out the side door while she was distracted by the bartender shining a laser pointer on the wall. It’s still sends shivers down my spine when I think about that close call. 😾

I got to see one on my grandfather's property in Temple Texas about 6 years ago. The place is overwhelmed with deer so no surprise that their was a mountain lion. One of the greatest privileges I've ever experienced. That experience has made cats my favorite animal. Everything from house cats to big cats with snow leopards being my favorite.

I live in northeast Texas. About 11 miles west of Texarkana. About 6 months ago, a mountain lion ran across the road, in front of my car. There was no mistaking the exceedingly long tail and the sheer size of this cat. He was at a dead run, breaking out from a wooded area on my left to access another wooded area to my right. I saw him/her cross about a 60+ foot distance. It was amazing.

I’ve seen a full grown mountain lion along Brushy Creek in east Round Rock, just a few miles east of I-35. It’s amazing to think of one going west to east along the creek, & passing through/underneath the very busy I-35 corridor. Around the same time, there were also many sightings & livestock attacks/deaths in Hutto near Brushy Creek, a bit further east of where I had my sighting. When I saw mine, it was crouched in the shade beneath a mesquite/shrub tree near the green-belt of the creek. I was about 20-25 yds away, & making steady eye contact. I took a few slow steps closer, and it slowly stood up, turned sideways, slowly stretched itself out, & turned around to walk down the small hill behind it. I can never forget that stoic face staring back at me, its stretched out side, & that long skinny tail. Beautiful. I’ve seen many large bobcats in this area too, but they’re relatively common. I have pictures & video of a big one. Seeing a momma bobcat & her two cubs stumbling over each other once was a treat.

I saw a huge black one in east Texas one morning plain as day about 10 years ago. It was chasing a rabbit in a clearing near the intersection of two rural roads between Winnsboro and Mt. Vernon. I was in my work truck. When the cat saw me, it ran one way and the rabbit ran the other. I bet that rabbit was glad to see me. There have been many sightings in NE Texas.

I have two stories to tell. First, when I was five and a half, I decided that since i wasn't getting enough attention I'd walk over to my Grandpa's house. About three city blocks away, but we didn't live in the city, rather the edge of our then still little town. Everywhere around that wasn't houses was farming or ranches. So I , being nearly three feet tall, but not quite, came down my hill and around the corner of our street. Coming around the far corner of our "block" was a mountain lion, nearly but not quite, so tall as myself. I've since measured, about 110 yards from corner to corner, with a low spot that drained from my left to right nearer her than me, with lots of brush along side. I knew that if I turned and ran, I'd be chased. Wisdom or folk tales from my elders I expect, but I'm not sure. I was little and it was a long time ago. So, what my stupid little self did, was clench my fists and keep walking down the 'street' to go see grandpa, right towards a mountain lion. It stepped off the road into the low spot on my right and into the bushes, I kept straight on, though on the left side of the road until I turned right onto my grandpa's street. There were houses and dogs and livestock now between me and where I'd seen the cougar so I was less worried. Arrived safely at grandpas and told him the story of my journey. I don't think he believed me at first, but after i told the same story a few times and described the animal I'd see, he brought his chickens in and didn't let me walk home. (less than 1/10th of a mile). One of my strongest memories from my childhood. I can still feel my fists bunched up whenever I think back on it, and the look on Grandpas face when he started to believe me. Ask me about the second story if you're interested, I'm tired of typing instead of watching videos :P

There are some in north Texas, one was killed by a truck close to Possum Kingdom Lake, it was a big one. I’ve seen a glimpse of one while running at Big Cedar trails (Dallas) It wasn’t a bobcat or a house cat, it was huge with a long tail. I saw him from top of a hill, I turned back around, got in my car and left, since I was running alone.

My daughter took pics & video of a big black one out frolicking in the sun. Game wardens finally confirmed 2 adult cougars are in her area but said nothing about the color. Close to Palestine TX. And my neighbor has seen 3 very big "orange" ones on our property, and his ranch hand saw 2 black adults with babies. Now another neighbor saw 2 long-tailed spotted baby cats out here a couple weeks ago. I have seen many tracks very close to the house . We are east of I-35, just west of Palestine off I-45 and have a lot of deer- I watched 5 in my front yard area last night. I know the big cats are out here, I've even heard them "scream" and don't care to again! Just haven't seen one myself.

@LS99 @LS99 I do too 🤣 And of course her pics & videos were horrible & grainy just like those bigfoot ones we've all seen! But yeah, she was a little shook at the moment because she was at her mailbox a 1/4 mile down the driveway & it was across the road in a field. I'm gonna tell her she better go live next time because hahaha yeah right! Wait, that would probably look fake like my comment above. Maybe she should follow it till the game warden gets there, yeah that might work! I'm sure she'll be sitting down by the mailbox every day now with some venison trests, waiting for one to wander by in the middle of a sunny afternoon again. You know how those house cats can look like the big cats that are only found in areas where they've been officially identified, especially when they're over a football field away. You'd think a 6' tall gal would know the difference between a big kitty and a dang "mountain lion". And these darn smartphones & their grainy videos - it must have been a pink panther. Glad to entertain you!

In 2016 I went on a dove hunt at the Las Palomas WMA Arroyo Colorado unit near Rio Hondo TX. As I was walking out to the field I see a huge black cat walking along a narrow dirt road on the property. The first thing I thought was a black panther. I watched that cat for a good 3 minutes as clear as day. I thought theres no way, it has to be a mountain lion. But the body way too big and wider. And it was black black. It was a big body cat. I have the image burned in my mind. I watched it cross the road, then it saw me it stopped and walked into the woods. I tried to hunt but after 10mins and knowing it was out there I left. No one believes me but I dont care. I know what I saw. I just wanted to share my story.

I saw one from about 200yards away crossing the street, at night, in Castroville TX. 2004-05. It looked like a panther, even as it walked under the streetlight, it looked black, but I knew better. It was definitely a cat, the way their front shoulders move is visible from even 200yrds away. It just casually strutted across the street. It was huge, I didn't think mountain lions got that big. The closed the local park down there a few months ago in 2019, cause of a mountain lion sighting on one of the trails.

Given the number of humans in lion country there are very few attacks. Usually the lions are injured, very old or ill. It’s terrible when it happens but nit a reason to persecute them I’ve been up close several times in the Southwest and never attacked or bothered. I know that if one of them had fit in the above category, things might have been different, but all three were young and healthy...two were down in Tucson during droughts and hanging around to drink from swimming pools. One parked herself in my parents’ roof for the duration if the drought. She was. Very polite and so beautiful.

That's because the second they are seen they are killed. People in texas have no respect for the wildlife here, "see it KILL IT!" as they say. This is partly why texas has such a pathetic wild ecosystem. We lost bison, elk, larger mountain lions, jaguars, wolves, bears ETC. Ever wondered why texas mountain lions are so small and malnourished looking compared to other mountain lions? Well there's your answer, they barely got anything to eat and all of the big prey items are extinct so they grow smaller and are in very small numbers. Though any airheaded Texan will tell you "THERES MORE THAN THERE SEEMS BROTHEEERRR, THURR EVERYWHERE!" All they want to do is kill something, got nothing better to do apperantly.

Last October me and my husband saw a mountain loin right after sunrise we headed to a a house we where being paid to remodel between Carlton tx and Purvs tx both ghost towns, it was walking across the two lane road to a bobbed wire fence its tail was as long as its body and it was a beautiful deep redish brown color. It leaped over the fence and was camouflaged instantly in the only patch of tall grass. We knew exactly where it was but could not see it at all after it hid. It was amazing how quickly and well it could hide. It was about the size of a large lab. It looked very thin and possibly young with its size. I looked it up as I had never seen any pictures or big cats quite the red color it was and found one that looked exactly like it but the article said that cat had not been seen in Texas for over 100 years. We both got a very good look at it and would bet it was that type of loin.

As far as not being East of I-35 in Texas, that is nonsense. I was a railroad engineer for over 32 years between Dallas and Shreveport, La. and have seen at least 5 mountain lions at 50yds or less, one of which was black. Also I worked some North and West of Dallas. About 3pm on day just outside of West Denton city limits I was stopped on a train next to a pasture with private road crossing between 2 pastures and there was a ditch with a large culvert directly below my engine operating cab which was about 8ft below my window at which time I was given a signal to back up. I acknowledged the signal by blowing 3 short blasts on the train whistle and saw a full grown BLACK mountain lion emerge from that culvert just below me (abt 8ft away) and trotted off thru a coral and barn yard. I was not alone on the engine as there was another train crew member with me and I ask him "what is that" and he replied it ain't no damn dog. I saw another Black mountain lion in Travis County, Texas while deer hunting. So there are big cats in all parts of Texas and some are BLACK, I don't care what Texas Fish and Game says. They either don't want to admit to their existance or they just don't know what they are talking about!!!

in the benavides texas area during the mid 1980s i saw a very large black cat that looked like a mountain lion with 2 babies following.. it was maybe 75 feet away and daylight out.. it was in a cleared area around the perimeter fences almost as wide as the roads.. she came out into the clearing.. stopped and looked my way then they just slowly crossed the clearing and were back into the brush.. the babies were larger then house cats so i am certain it was not a house cat .. i dont know if maybe it was a pet that escaped or naturally there or possibly escaped from a hunting ranch as regulations and policing were beyond relaxed during that time

My step dad and a Native American tracker, tracked one out in the brush for a week. The tracker they hired said it was huge 200+ pounder judging by its paw prints. It had been terrorizing the farmers in the Pandale, Tx area taking down cows, dogs, whatever it could. I don't think they ever found it, but my step dad did find it's tracks circling his outhouse after he had went to the outhouse after dark. True story, my step dad was an avid hunter and lived as far north as Canada out in the brush with my mom. weird fact, the Sheriff of the closest town had given my step dad a badge to police Pandale which is 60 miles down dirt road from the closest town.

I'm here cause I'm worried one might be stalking me on my fishing spot. Not sure if its dog prints or a mountiain lion's. But either way Spring Creek is east of I-45 isn't it? Odds should be slim. But been seeing tracks often, fresh in the creek bed where I fish. Not sure if its a dog or a cat. Can't tell by the prints. The other night riding home after fishing from 5pm-9pm I saw two green eyes in front of me, like glowing orbs. Had to stop my bike and bark/yell cause the thing wasn't moving and was sitting like a big dog. Eyes were like 1-2 inches apart. Looked at me head on. Can't tell if it was a deer, some huge dog. Or a big cat, maybe it was a coyote but the prints at the creek had sharp and deep claws that went at least half an inch into the sand, the size of this thing the same night pairs up. Had my headlamp on and switched on the kill light and started yelling till it ran off in the woods to my right. Thing was maybe 10 or so feet in front of me to my left, he was on the steep slant of the pipeline. Not sure if he was stalking me in the dark. Thing looked white/brownish. And an edited note, think I'll be fishing the nearby pond and lake conroe when I can. Which sucks, cause I been pulling bass after bass out of that spot. Same with panfish and catfish. Its a decent hole. Just as of late seems like a territorial hunting ground for some hercules sized cat. Apparently they hunt from dawn to dusk so it makes sense I would encounter one at all at like 9:40ish when it got pitch black out. Either way if I keep fishing down there gonna need more than my skin knife for that thing.

Got my drivers license and drove out to the woods off hwy 88 in California. Slept in my car off the side of the road that night in the drivers seat. Woke up at about 1am, silent isn't even the word, you can't hear anything but blood in your ears. It's unbelievably quiet up there to the point that I won't sleep in a tent out there anymore. I had to piss and was thinking through the paces of getting my shoes and headlamp... then in the moonlight, shining on the road, I see something moving. It was legs, eventually I thought I saw two legs like a person coming along down on the road, no light or anything.... It was a mountain lion, pretty big, black tip on it's tail, walked right up to the side of the car as I sat there completely still and silent. I'll never forget seeing one, after 3 years cumulative time under the stars in my 35... I finally got to see a mountain lion. Don't want to ever meet one otherwise but hey they are very cool in my book.

@Sims 3 Forever Dude dude 300lbs on average? That’s a lioness territory not Jaguar. Jaguars, even in the pantanal aren’t as big as you claim, like I said the big ones exist, but like any other animal the large sizes of animals are sporadic and few and far in between, you’re mostly gonna get the average, which is not 300. And for the 3rd time I’m talking about large cougars from places like British Columbia and near poles, which are also sporadic, average sized male cougars are like 130-150lbs.

I have seen 3 mountain lions, better known as Pumas in South Texas. The 2 Pumas I seen were within the same area at different time period. One around 1989 the other around 1995 in a very rural town I was living at called Yancey. When I saw the one in 1995, I was hunting deer and I saw a movement about 3-4 acres down from where I was. I lloked through my scope and saw this Puma jumping over high grass. I almost went in a panice because I was alone and about 30 acres away from my truck. I was not sure if it was legal to kill it. As it turned out I told some of the local ranchers what I saw and they asked where and I told them. Apparently the ranchers were looking for this Puma as it had killed livestock. They killed it and it appeared in the Hondo newspaper..... uit was 7 foot 11 inches. Imagine something like that jumping on a person. The 3rd Puma I saw was in 2003 in Corpus Christi in the Annaville area. It was an semi-rural, sparsely populated area where I would ride a 10-speed bike. My friend lived in this area and his dogs would end up missing and never seen again. So one morning I am driving toward my friends house and right on the side of the road was a Puma eating something. Strangely, this Puma didnt even see or hear me. So I turned my truck off and watched it for a bit. Then the chilling realiization hit me that I have been riding my bike through there and now I knew why my friend's dogs have been missing

Red River area in the very southwest corner of Oklahoma here. Def thought I heard one a couple of months ago. My herd dog was on the front porch. Maremma,Akbash,Pyrenees mix. My boy was scared. It was way too loud to be a bobcat. And rancher 4 miles to the south told me the only reason he carries his rifle is that he's seen one multiple times. Also saw a HUGE black cat run across a back county road near wellington tx back in the early 2000s. It was a mystery to everyone in the vehicle. I think genetic anomalies might cause one to be darker. There is a documented leucistic mountain lion. Just because it is not documented doesn't mean it's not possible. In theory, if albinism can occur, so could melanism.
