I visited Oman in December 2017 and decided to go hiking in Jebel Shams. The most difficult thing in Oman is transport; I got lucky to get a car from the resort where I stayed in for two nights. Of course, I had to pay extra bucks for the taxi (OMR 70 for the pick up and drop), but it was one of the best deals out there. To cover 250 kms, we took 3 hours; not bad. It was great to see well-developed highways and local areas along the way. And I should not forget to mention the abundance of natural beauty that Oman has got; I felt like in a different world.

Stunning drive! Love all the rocky mountains there. The place you stayed was neat. I like the individual lodging like that. The eating spot was nice - was it busy at all?

can you get to jebel shams using a 2 wheel drive car?

The road is not paved in some places, which could make driving in the mountains challenging. For this reason, I would recommend using a four-wheel drive vehicle 🤗 Also, as I was there many years ago, please check with your hotel or locals before deciding. Have fun mate!
