He's so inconsistent as a hitter. He'll be on fire for two weeks and you go: "Wow! This guy's awesome." Then he goes back to sucking for 2 Months. They're starting to play Basallo some at 1B in AA. That guy's uber talented. I do like Mounty's defense but his offense is only so-so.

I'm in agreement with you on the extension for Mounty. His defense is definitely underrated and he presents a definite long ball threat and strong contact in the middle of the order. And don't forget his speed is also underrated on the basepaths

Massive team player. Loved by the fans and team. Plays a great first base. It would be a huge mistake to lose Mounty. It would suck to not see him on our young team. He deserves his spot.

I've wondered the same thing especially considering that Ryan's not one of the new administration's "guys". You have Mayo but there's another prospect that I would really hate to see go and he's tied to the Mountcastle decision. If they resign Mountcastle and keep Mayo, Samual Basallo will have no where to play. If the Angelos family was still in charge I'd say that he was Adley's replacement. There's a lot going against Samuel. I when the first guy gets resigned that will set the tone for what's to come. Do they want to resign now or wait for free agency? I think Mountcastle made some decisions a little harder for the front office once his defense went to the high level its at now and it's crazy to think that he's only 27. It's going to suck losing some of these guys via trade but when they make these moves I would like to see them acquire someone with more than just one year on the team. I also would hate to see the chemistry get messed up by making these seemingly necessary moves. It's a lot to consider.

I'm fine with bringing him back, but we do have other prospects who will need a spot. Mountcastle is a slightly above average bat and an above average glove at first, so there is no real risk sticking with him, other than it's possible his replacement will be even better.

Everyone has been clamoring for Coby Mayo to make the big leagues, but he'll have to wait as long as Mounty is up in Baltimore. Mayo's defense is poor compared to Ryan's stellar play at first base, plus he's already proven he can hit in the MLB. Question is, do we trade Mayo due to him being blocked by Westburg at Third Base and Mounty at First?

Mountcastle isn't a free agent until after the 2026 season. No way they extend him with Mayo and Basallo coming up. I love Mountcastle. But if you know how the Orioles operate, they aren't going to extend him when they have 2 guys like Mayo and Basallo in the minors. Mike Elias will slow play this to see how it all shakes out.

Very valid points . Elias does like to slow play . Bassallo I don’t think will ever play a position . I also think he’s not in the organization much longer bc of the defensive issues but high return in a trade . But he’s young enough to learn too . So we will see

@PigTownSports I don't know much about Basallo defensively but there is no way the Orioles trade that bat. They will figure something out with him. The Orioles will have 4 free agents at the end of the year. Burnes, Means, Santander and McCann. I bet they resign McCann to a 1 year deal and see how Basallo develops at catcher with 2025 in the minors. The other 3, who knows. We will see how the new ownership is when trying to resign these 3 or what the Orioles do. Then I think you may see some extensions done, but they will be Adley and Gunnar before anyone else.

It’s a high price tag , and 20 is probably more realistic . But depends on how his next 2 full seasons shape up . Markets high right now for contracts in that range
