Here is a video of me mounting my second tarantula molt from my big adult female Grammsotola pulchripes (Chaco Golden Knee). Thought I'd show you all how to mount a molt since I havn't seen many good videos on how to do so. Enjoy and I'd like to see your tarantula mounts if you do one!

When I did this for a friend (I don't own a t yet, but he is super sucky when it comes to art), I reupholstered the cloth part where the t sits with a pastel pink, and it really made the t pop. It was pretty cute, kinda a pastel goth look. 💖

Great tutorial. Just a little trick I use, if you make a "relaxing jar" or tub it will be much easier on the molt. Water and soap can discolor and damage the molt. I have been using this trick for years and it has never damaged anything I mount. It does take a little longer but its safer for the specimen.
@Senshii84
@Senshii84 8 жыл бұрын
+Lochan Kalicharan I'm interested. Could you please explain what you mean by "relaxing jar"?? I have never had problems with my method, but it is always good to try out other things
@lochankalicharan3271
@lochankalicharan3271 8 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. I use this method when I am mounting butterflies, moths or any fragile insects. Basically take some tupperware or a jar and lay down a few layers of paper towel and wet them with hot water. Place a piece of wax paper the size of the insect on the paper towel and then place the insect on the wax paper. Cover the jar so its nice and tight and in a day or two the specimen should be "relaxed" and should move freely. just be careful not to leave it too long or mold will form.

Senshii, just thought you'd like to know you can buy dyed needle felting wool to match whatever colour you need for stuffing the abdomen, which is a lot easier than spending ages colouring in with a felt tip. Even better if you get a felting needle to go with it you can mould the wool into any shape and it will be really firm and solid. It's worth looking into, there are loads of needle felting tutorials on youtube. Awesome video and I can't wait to try this when one of my Ts moults!

I am seriously considering buying one or two spiderlings. But I am learning as much as I can before I get them, rather than learn by mistakes. KZfaq is an excellent source of info from real owners, so I am not rushing, I am enjoying learning..... I think I shall be ready to buy them in 2 - 4 weeks. I will be asking UK owners where they recommend I buy spiderlings from. I am disabled and housebound, so I have to do everything via the internet. My disabilities will not affect my ability to care for them.

I love this video. I wonder if it will work on a molt from 4 years ago. I have a molt from a haplopelma vonwirthi that died on me after I tried rescuing it from a large pet store chain that had no idea how to care for any tarantula what so ever. It would be nice to be able to mount it as I really had a soft spot for that particular T.
@Senshii84
@Senshii84 8 жыл бұрын
it should work for a molt of any age. the soap and warm water help to moisten it so it is pliable, and molts don't really change with age, so you should be fine

Just a heads up to anyone, I'd recommend testing your adhesive around the marker beforehand to see if it reacts at all. I used clear-dry epoxy I had on hand, and when it got in contact with my cheap brown marker color, it turned everything a nasty intense green.
