Mounting an Universal Robot UR5 to our CNC mill

UR5 meets VM6.
This robot is actually way too small for that machine. But we already bought a used model from 2011 for another purpose in our company and maybe we can find a funny spot, where this tiny friend is still able to the tending for the CNC mill.
This sad robot also was unable to do anything because of an encoder failure in joint 6 which needed to be fixed.
We'll see how it performs over the next weeks.

Zamocować podstawę robota do blaszanej osłony. Mistrzostwo świata. Cud jak ten robot w przedmiot trafi nie mówiąc o jego precyzyjnym umieszczeniu w jakimś imadle.

Attach a pneumatic cylinder to that door and integrate into your UR I/O. Not sure if the UR inserts raw stock or just flips after 1st op but if the latter you could just have it wait for cycle finish signal, engage pneumatic cylinder to open door, perform flip, move back to waypoint clearing the door, close pneumatic operated door, cycle start.

Where I used to work there was an engineer trying to get a robot to work on one of our smaller mills. He never could get it to work I figure he is still trying. Lol

What does a used UR5 from that time period go for these days? I'd use an air cylinder to open and close that door instead of the robot. While it works, it stresses the gearheads in that model quite a bit.

To be fair the VM6 is only 130k starting. I would love to buy one to mess around with and not focus so much on output, that's the dream!

How easy has it been for you to integrate automation with this UR on a job to job basis (job shop environment) low/med volume runs like 100 pcs or so…. Easy programming the robot as well? I really would like to know

It's Wilke Wicosynt 1126. Since this is our first CNC I can't say whether it's good or bad. It's supposed to have some additives to handle the 70 bar (1000 psi) through tool coolant. IIRC about 6 to 7 EUR per liter (60 liter barrel).

We are on a Haas machine and use their M-Fin interface for simple robot communication kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbCCbLSk0dbZnnk.html

Hi. Maybe you can help me. How do you actuate the robot with signals from the CNC? Do you have robot ready interface? I'm trying some like this, but with a fanuc robot. If you can help me, I will appreciate that. Thanks in advance. Regards

If you are on a Haas machine then I would use one or two of the custom standard relays and use the M-Fin interface for a simple robot communication kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbCCbLSk0dbZnnk.html

There are always open M function 12volt DC signals reserved on all machine tools. You have to wire these into the the robots PLC.

Crazy, the UR5 we've been using has had no problem placing and picking parts from our VF-OE and DT1. Where is your UR5 located in relation to the machine?
