I feel like for MTB and skiing, I'd still stick to action 4, even when I shoot on auto settings the out-of-the-box color is amazing. In your low-light comparison, I think both x4 and action 4 look good, it's just the white balance difference. A slightly bigger sensor means a bit more light, so I think it's logical to conclude that action 4 should be slightly better. The only thing I'm missing sometimes is the additional features, as you mentioned. I'd be happy to experiment with star lapses or light painting. Lastly, I'd never trust any battery tests because these batteries usage time varies, and the tests are far from real scenarios. But I appreciate in-depth comparisons like this. Thanks and keep doing the good work. Hopefully, you'll help me upgrade next year.

Recently been doing a lot of research into action cameras and I just wanted to say after watching a few of your videos I really appreciate the amount of detail you provide and clear comparisons. Amazing work!! Im still undecided what to buy but I've learnt a lot thank you.

Personally I think the DJI Action 4 is better, you can switch profiles from a side button, you can also start/stop recoding as well as state "Shut Down" with your voice. The magnetic clap of the Action 4 is really cool, I have a number of these connectors meaning I just unclip and mount, no need for unscrewing. DJI also do a holder, which I use in my car and just clip the Action 4 in and it's my daily dashcam, really cool when you set it to time-laps. When it comes to video sharing most of use use Social Media, so recording in 8k is so lost on these applications, it will be downgraded to 1080p or even 720p.. but sharing with friends again what are they viewing it on and can it take 8k? Thanks for the comparison video really good -Liked , I just don't think for me, the Insta360 X4 8k camera is what I need right now, but maybe in the future. :)

I do not trust this camera DJI ACTION 4, they require you to activate it using your phone. Thats why this camera is so good yet cheap comaored to the others. Do not buy. This is huge privacy concer. Chinese company will leak your information its the weridest thing ever.. not another camera requires you to activate by downloading an app to share all ur info from your phone to the app. Huge privacay concern, just anothe chinse company looking to leak ur private information. I retunred right away

I have had two GoPros in the past, but unfortunately, both ended up with a damaged power button and resulted to water leakage. So, I am considering trying out DJI products.

5.7K30 can only output 1080P30, so the fair comparion of recording time is 5.7K30 of X4 VS 1080P30 of gopro or Action

I currently own the X3 and don't have any other action camera. Aside from 360 mode, I use the single lens mode quite often and have never really enjoyed its quality and therefore I was planning to get an action 4 but after watching this video I am pretty impressed with the single lens mode quality. Do you thinking exchanging the X3 with a new X4 would be a great idea for my use case?

Hm - the single lens mode has actually been improved - better colours, dynamic range etc. - but it depends on if that's enough to upgrade

I have both and each have their own use cases. The sensor in the DJI OSMO Pocket 3 is larger and is better in low light and the camera produces those dreamy 'wide aperture' type shots. Importantly the Pocket 3 has focus control, whereas the X4 does not.

0:53 .... which of course had a negative effect on the image quality........This his now changed. The X4............. A rather dishonest remark, framing afterwards still has a negative effect in the same way as with the X3. The only difference is that you can start with a higher resolution and with the same framing and up with a higher resolution..... but it will still have the same negative effect, that has not changed.

I have a hero 9 and have never had such poor quality as you show with the hero 12. Can you honestly say that's the best quality you can get. I think not.

Do you ever upload the footage to KZfaq? KZfaq compresses the footage quite a bit, so it looks very different to when you watch the footage directly on the app or export it directly to your device.

Thanks a lot for your review, which helps a lot! I already have the X4 and coming from the Hero 11, i am not 100% satisfied with the image quality yet. But looking at your videos, i must have done something wrong, maybe whith the export. 😅 Would you mind telling me, if you shot it in flat picture mode and did you use lens guards? And when exporting, which bitrate did you chose for KZfaq. I always used 80mps for my Hero 11 4K upload and had no issues. With the X4 i am far away of that quality. Would be awesome to know what you did with your X4 footage. 🙂

Hi - export in ProRes in the Studio Desktop App. Shot with the Standard Picture Profile - Bitrate High. If you shoot for KZfaq: only in very good lighting conditions and in open spaces - KZfaq will compress your footage and many small details (such as in a wood) will lead to bad results.

The X4 take really nice 360 stills - there is a pure shot mode for better quality in low light - I've shown a few sample shots in my X4 review

Hi Gareth, I didn't make a comparison but one minute shot in 8k30 takes about 1.5GB of storage. You can keep the original files after reframing or just keep the reframed clip - that's up to you

The dji mic 2 can also be connected to the X4 via Bluetooth as far as I know.

It does and it works well. However you don't have internal 32 bit float recording or the DJI Mic 2's Noise Reduction capability when linked by Bluetooth to either the X4 or a SmartPhone. You can of course leave it unlinked and use it as a standalone recorder and pop the sound recording into the Insta360 Studio's Project timeline.

Insta360 should start to work on removing the shadow cast from the pole. Hopefully it'll be available through AI processing soon.

At that point go a step further and remove the shadow from the device as well, otherwise you'd have a hovering device

Why does everyone test in 30 fps. All action video at 30 fps is horrible. In action cameras this fps is almost unusable. Action video needs to be shot in 60 fps and it has nothing to do with slo-mo.

The X4 does not shoot in 60 fps when using 8k 360.

@@Ozpeter I know, but it shoots in 5.7k 60fps. That makes it a framed, 1080p 60fps, 360. This is what will work best for either movement of the camera, the subject or both. This is a great improvement over the X3, which only shot 5.7k at 30fps.

Great video, honestly from what I've seen and some files I've struggled to find the image quality still leaves something to be desired. In my opinion, color management has improved, better details, but still an effective 2.7k reframed. Definitely a good upgrade from the x2, but I see a lot of marketing. In fact I sold the x2 to get this one, but I don't have any great illusions. However, what I see not highlighted is the time it takes compared to an action for video editing work and if you seriously have to do a good job on dng photo files where there are many steps. the file exported in jpg by the software is miserable while working with the dng exported with acr is better. But times are not the short ones of the magical world of Insta with the smartphone app.

I still prefer the Action 4 because it's more realistic, less warp. I think an 8k camera makes no sense since youtube only have a 4k allowable video quality upload.

8k isnt just 8k its more detail overall so if you shoot 8k video and download it on your phone it look better then a regular 4k video

I was trained on the GoPro 7, 8,9,10,11 & now the 12 with the Max Lens 2.0 superview - I find it easier for me editing on the GoPro - I can move FASTER - also I love the Max Lens 2.0 superview - I can download on KZfaq then use the same footage with a crop in on my Facebook Reels - I can average over 10 music videos a day for over 15 years

Won't support Chinese DJI even though image looks good, they failed me, drone cine drowned in ocean and black box data showed that drone thought its near ground and fell out of sky about 200 ft above water. Only thing they offered was 40% discount, really? I paid 5k usd for cine and they want me to pay another 2.5k for the drone? For the software error? It was not my fault that drone wasn't able to calculate proper distance. No chinese dji for me.

Okay now for the $64,000 question... Is there such a product (camera) out there that you can just plug-n-play right out of the box, (without the giving up your privacy) by FORCING you to "Activate" before using? Remember back in the old days with digital cameras that you install an SD Card into, start shooting video/pictures. Then able to download onto your computer. WITHOUT any company knowing what you're doing. That's what I'm looking for! Bet-cha' 98% of the people never read the full terms of agreement and understand them fully, giving up their privacy. Just because they're too lazy (hello easy targets).

I'm currently testing both the x4 and the x3 I have to say when I film both at 5.7 in nice weather you can already notice a difference or when I film at 8k on the X4 Is this difference big enough to make an update? My personal opinion NO You can see more details with the The colors can be easily changed in the cutting program I think the x3 is a GREAT camera (the disadvantage of the X3 is that it takes longer to turn on and off and the battery doesn't last as long The disadvantage of the x 4 with the stick It seems heavier in the long run, which annoys me a bit I think the tone is the same for both But when I watch films on a nice day with the For example, when I film with the Pocket 3 and the Ace Pro in low light, there is a much greater difference. In the lowlight area whether X 3 or (X4 a little better) Both aren't that good But it is also clear that both of them are very nice weather cameras

Another great comparison video! GoPro guy here and have to admit…X4 is now king of 360 action cams! Love my Max but after watching your last two X4 videos and then using my Max again…it was like test driving a Lamborghini then having to drive your Hyundai hatchback for the rest of your life!! Max 2 will have a huge hill to climb to catch up with X4…. One thing I will disagree with you is that I have used the GoPro 12 extensively and I can tell you it is heads and shoulders ABOVE the Action4! For a standard action camera, I would recommend the GoPro 12 100% all the way over anything else! But 360…. My wife is laughing at me because she knows that I now have to go out and get this dang X4 ! 😁😂
