Hey Chris (sorry for the long post in advance), Just hit 500 miles on my '17 RS and I'm itching to get some basic upgrades done to smooth out some of the rougher edges of the car from factory. I had a "stage 1" Mountune setup with various goodies like a short shifter on my Fiesta ST and really loved the increased power + response as well as the ability to monitor various engine stats in real time. Sure as hell didn't miss having that shift assist rev hang either! That's currently a bit of an annoyance in the RS as well. Although I had no issues with tuning my Fiesta, I'm a bit more cautious with the RS thus far since it's a brand new $40k car and I did opt for a 100k mile warranty through Ford. I've heard some of the horror stories of '16 model year RS's with coolant issues and cracked blocks, so I'm a little conflicted with the decision to turn up the power, even conservatively as I understand Randy tends to. I live at about 6,500 feet in Colorado, so I deal with the same sorts of temperature fluctuations you get season to season there in Michigan, as well as the complications that can come at high altitude. Can you shed any light on your personal experience tuning your RS through Mountune and what affect it's had as a daily driven vehicle aside from the increased performance? I do trust the guys' experience and engineering, but it's hard to take that little bit more risk with all that money for a fairly insignificant amount of extra umph and the convenience of in-depth systems monitoring. I didn't take advantage of the 45-day free tune adjustment on the Fiesta, but think it might be wise to with the RS if I do end up going that route. Thanks in advance, and thank you for making all these videos!

+ShapeshiftedCow You tell Randy your situation and where you feel like you would be comfortable, I.e. little more performance. I think after the length you have been driving your focus RS you would be happy with the warranty tune through FOrd Racing and then can always add to that if you want. Or tell Randy you want the ford warranty tune and he will whip that up for you as he prob did it for Ford Racing anyway. That’s my best advice. I had fun in my car but after pushing 350WHP and 430FT lbs to the wheels something caught up to me. Now don’t take my failure as a common on as it was undiagnosable through Ford Engineering. Basically they knew there was a problem due to parameter behavior during a drive but did not know what it was. My PCM would not let my engine advance spark on hard acceleration, even with a tune your pcm still has final say as to protecting your engine. . If you ask Randy for something even more conservative than he normally does he will do it. Tell him I told you too.

Hoping you can help. Called Mountune USA in California; super helpful folks there. Based on my discussion with them, I understand that I can delete and reset to stock a few days prior to going to Ford for service using the Cobb products. Q: will this work as to not void the warranty? Thanks in advance.

It will always show even if you take the tune off. You will show 6 DTC codes. You can see them by holding the start button without pushing in the clutch until you get a diagnostic screen on your Guage cluster. The only real way to remove all evidence is to clear with IDS a ford diagnostic software. What is the service for?

Christopher Ayres thanks for your reply. Though my RS has the engine recall, I like the peace of mind of having a warranty. So, I wanted to know if I can reset at a later day and being in to the dealership for whatever service may be needed. Thanks

how much are they asking for custom tunes? Do you get unlimited number of tunes or do u get a limited amount? If you sourced your Cobb AP from some place else aside from Mountune, can you pay Mountune for their tunes or do you have to get the AP from Mountune themselves?
@ChristopherAyresfrs2
@ChristopherAyresfrs2 7 жыл бұрын
+pr0jectSkyneT it comes with their packages that come with the AP, or just the AP. You do have to get the AP from them at I believe $650.00. Then you get 45 days of free tuning then something around $40 after that time period for further tuning which is plenty of time to dial in a tune.

E C I am thinking that European cars have the sand ECU that yours has as when car companies build exports its usually one car the meets EU and Asian standard and 1 that fits US spec. I’m sure he can do it.

330whp and 390wtq achievable on a standard RS with European 98 octane
@ChristopherAyresfrs2
@ChristopherAyresfrs2 7 жыл бұрын
+Dean Gold you can get more than that. That's a pretty conservative tune. No doubt fun as hell. But conservative, especially if your octagon is rated the same as the states you've got borderline race fuel compared to what we have.
