Probably the best Washington book I've read, or any biography I've read on any American in U.S. history. Props to Mr. Chernow for writing this amazing account of a man who's just known now for being the first president or another name, but is one of the most consequential men in U.S. history. I think Americans need to read this book, which is an awesome account of arguably the greatest general, Father, and President of our nation's story.

Nicholas Abbs agree! The only difference is the weight of their accomplishments. Both are equally well written and genius but I liked the Washington book better only because it's Washington!

This is very good book. Joseph Ellis also wrote an amazing book called “His Excellency.” Chernow’s Hamilton is amazing of course.

Just finished his Washington biography for the second time. It's phenomenal. A great resource for learning about George Washington the man, and not the legend.

I've recently read and much enjoyed the GW biography. Chernow guides the reader through the history Washington lived and also Washington's strengths, failings, and even insecurities as a person. If I have one criticism, however, it is that Chernow often makes what seem to me to be some questionable assumptions about the workings of Washington's mind itself.

Of his undergraduate experience at Yale University, he is described as having graduated Summa Cum Laude. Here I had always thought that, in a private university, one graduates Magna Cum Laude. Am I accurate?

How hard was it to fit his (George Washington’s) life story into as many chapters which was the number of years in his life? Was this deliberate?

But Washington did have original thinking as to battle tactics, and as to precepts or norms of the Presidency. So Chernow is wrong regarding the ‘creative thought’ scenario with Washington.
