Aerial Footage of the Mourne Mountains in Snow in Winter 2023 - Cinematic FPV & Drone Footage - Northern Ireland
After 3 years of attempts to capture these conditions, I finally got the chance to film the spectacular Mourne Mountains with full white snow cover. We were recently treated to 2 full days of snowfall in Northern Ireland and the weather was forecast to be bright and blue on Friday 9/3/23. I headed straight for the Mournes on Friday morning with my drones and got treated to the most incredible weather. Bright blue skies and no wind at all!
This is probably the most amazing drone footage I have ever captured of the Mourne Mountains. The FPV drone footage is the first of its kind for the Mournes, especially in the snow!
This video was shot on the DJI Mavic 3 and GoPro 9 & 11 on a series of custom built FPV drones. Namely, the Aquila 7, 7 inch long range FPV drone.
I hope you enjoy the video! It really is something special. Conditions like these are really hard to come by and I am very grateful I got the opportunity to capture them.

Great video. Do you need any special filers for video in the snow? I am going to Switzerland in the New Year and taking my DJI Mini 3?

Thanks. You definitely need a strong ND Filter. Snow reflects the sunlight and can be quite tricky to expose. I was using an ND 32 with my aperture cranked to about F7.1 or 8. For the Mini 3 I'd recommend bringing an ND 64 if the weather where you're going will be sunny. Of course it depends on the conditions on the day as whether it's overcast or not will have an affect on how strong an ND you need, but if it's sunny be sure to bring a fairly strong one! Hope this helps.

Hi Michael, yes I do commercial drone work. I have covered many music festivals by drone. I also did some of the first FPV drone coverage of a music festival in the whole of Ireland just last summer there, namely at EMERGE Belfast.
