Locals gather at rubble of Crooked House after its demolition
More than 100 people gathered near the rubble of the Crooked House in Dudley to lament the historic pub’s destruction.
The well-known 18th-century pub was extensively damaged by a fire on Saturday evening before footage emerged on social media of what remained of the building being demolished by a mechanical digger.

What I don't understand is how when a property becomes owned by property developers this kind of stuff happens? 1000's of years and nothing, but a property developer gets hold of it and it is burnt to the ground within weeks? I really can't put my finger on it.

It's far cheaper to burn a building, than to have it demolished whilst is still in place, this was arson by the developers, if the building had remained intact the developers would have had to pay all sort of contractors to assess the property and probably fight the demolition, in court as the public are clearly in love with this old pub

It's already been investigated by the police the whole area has been declared a crime scene, the local council hadn't grant a licence for the building to be demolished, the police will find it difficult to get evidence and prove who is the arsonist I'm afraid this crime is very common with very little success for a conviction the police will know but getting evidence is impossible?

Absolutely 100% agree. New owners by the way have been named in the press as ATE Farms Ltd, based next door to the pub. Co-incidentally they'd have access to the heavy machinery needed to block the fire engines. Their directors will be subject to police investigations as we speak. Hopefully they'll be banged up. And the company will be forced to rebuild what they destroyed.

I see eastern europe historical building removal technique reached UK. Clear case of setting it on fire to then claim it is unsafe and demolish it. Common occurrence where I live, with historical buildings. There is one sitting in high state of degradation for almost 15 years, after owner allowed for everything made of iron to be stolen and then set it on fire to have the wood beams destroyed. The brick walls survived and still standing, despite some earthquakes taking place. Authorities then mimicked trying to get the building out of the owners' hands. Once the walls fall, there is room for dozens of apartment buildings which will make the owner a very rich guy.
