Not many People have the Luck, to get a funeral procession like that. How beautiful it is, the People singing his Songs. Gave me Goosebumps. Farewell!

Shane MacGowan had a way of making the hearts of those that heard him a little bit stronger. Safe passage, and please mark the trail to wherever you are going to next.

What a send off. SHANE would have lived it I'm sure. A fitting tribute to a lovely man. Thank you for the great Christmas song. It'll be sung for years to come and we'll never forget you or Christie McColl. ❤❤

Dirty Old Town [ Roud - ; Mudcat 30172 , 48907 ; Ewan MacColl] Ewan MacColl wrote Dirty Old Town about Salford, Lancashire, England, the city where he was born and brought up. It was originally composed for an interlude to cover an awkward scene change in his 1949 play Landscape with Chimneys, set in a North of England industrial town, but many people now erroneously regard it as a traditional song.

Most unusual that an Englishman is held in such high public respect in Dublin Ireland. Very refreshing. I enjoyed the Pogues. And clearly Shane touched a lot of people's hearts.

He was born in England but raised in Tipperary. He was never seen as English by the kids he went to school with. He spent all his time in Ireland growing up, only in England for school. Furthermore, country of birth isn't that significant. One of my close friends is Canadian by birth but lives in America, served in the American military... He's American.

@@omglauraelizabethHe has lived in England since he was six - he won a scholarship to Westminster, for heaven's sake! (Admittedly only for a year, but still...) There are people who knew him in his teens who say he didn't have an Irish accent then. From an earlier guardian article. Why the obsession with his irishness?

@@omglauraelizabeth I'm international so I don't care overly how people identify themselves. He was born in England which makes him English. Is that a bad thing? If you were born in Canada that makes you Canadian. Is that a bad thing?
