I for one am glad she's so willing to actually talk about how her health has improved. That's not her diet or her exercise but the treatment plan. And that treatment plan includes her plasma and a bunch of antibiotics that she has in rotation, with probably some painkillers to boot. And all of that is to keep her healthy enough to function tolerably for her but not for a normal person. Michi also mentioned she has a weak immune system, it functions but poorly. I know when she was speaking to Mel a few days ago. Mel was livid at the lack of appropriate treatment (though she kept totally professional about the whole thing. It wa only wheh Michi went to the washroom did she say. I missed chucks of the VOD but I really want to hear the whole convo.

Don't get me wrong, donating plasma is very important, but it is good to note that in the US, these plasma companies make a lot of money from so called "donations". The companies use the term donation to make people think it's not for profit. Really, donors are giving a service for a fee.
@Penultimeat
@Penultimeat Ай бұрын
Well yeah, as a result for the pay-for-plasma system, I’m fairly certain the US has many times more donors than in other nations, even adjusting for population. The pharmaceutical industry will continue making money regardless whether or not the donors get paid, but it is a great opportunity. I’ve made more than $3000 dollars donating plasma

@@Penultimeat In Canada I don't think we donate plasma. I think we just have to donate blood and then once the samples are screened they get processed appropriately and based on demand.
@Penultimeat
@Penultimeat Ай бұрын
@@EndoftheBeginning17 that’s very unlikely, as that would be extremely wasteful. Making a Whole Blood donation takes much more out of you (literally and figuratively) than a plasma donation. Theres a reason they give you a cookie and prevent you from driving after a Whole Blood donation but you can drive immediately after a plasma donation. Not to mention, you can donate plasma much more often. Twice every week instead of every few months. If it was common practice to centrifuge whole blood donations in Canada to separate plasma out, that would be very wasteful

@sanstheblaster2626
@sanstheblaster2626 Ай бұрын
Immunoglobulins. They are proteins that your body produces to kill dangerous organisms. In your blood there are these cells called Lymphocytes that are one of the most effective ways your body has to deal with diseases. Some of them attack intruders directly (T cells), while others produce substances that will kill intrudes indirectly (B cells), and those substances are the immunoglobulins. The blood of a person who has been exposed to a specific disease will contain higher amounts of the immunoglobulins that are useful to fight off that specific disease, which is why plasma was so important during covid: we used the plasma of those who recovered to give more vulnerable people the defences built up by the luckier among us. Of course, without the right B cells to produce them, a person who injected plasma will at some point run out of immunoglobulins, which is why Mouse has to constantly inject new plasma, as her own immune system won't do it on its own.

I completely understand mousey's plight with the Healthcare system, here in America. It's so fkd up, how we have to let ourselves get severely sick, or pretend that our condition is worse than it is, for the insurance to take it seriously...sometimes to get the nurses & Dr's to take it seriously, too. I wish I could donate plasma, but I have chronic Anemia, so I'm not allowed to donate, cuz it could kill me. My brother used to donate plasma, till the nurses kept taking it from the same vein so much that it nearly caused one of his veins to collapse. He's got a permanent indent in his arm, now, because of that. It also caused him to become anemic, so now we're both on iron & B12 supplements.
