But I felt that it’s also true that You Sound Happier with Your Favorite mouthpiece! You definitely sounded better with Okutsu VH model.

Thank you for sharing your experience it's been difficult to get a lot of good direct insight on different mouth pieces I'm going to try some of these brands on tenor as I'm looking for a brighter sound myself.

Love the Ishimori Wood Stone sound! Soloist-like pieces always have a special place in my heart 🫶 Claude Lakey is a really great powerhouse but I find (tried the alto & tenor HR) they're always tend to be sharp, hard to tune it right. Still got Meyer 5M in my arsenal too, I think it's a piece that every altoist have to try at some point of their journey 😆

Erena, First off, unbelievable sound, you would sound great on anything. The Claude Lakey and the Okutsu mouthpiece had the best sound to my ears. These just have more brilliance than the others.

You sound great as usual! Keep it up! That VI suits you, it's very similar to one I've tried that belonged to Vincent Herring... wondering if it is the same horn.

The great black American Bebop pioneer and virtuoso alto sax player, Charlie parker, is also known for pawning his and other musicians saxophone for his own money and drugs problems. What's amazing he sounded great on any saxophone he put his hands on, and some of those saxophones were student make beginner saxophones. He even recorded some great classics using these borrowed saxophones. Yes, it's true there many great sounding mouthpieces out there but I like when Erena says "It's actually you who's sounding GREAT!!!" Ha- ha- haaa!!!

...I recently picked up a 10Mfan... Very long note. My V16 T7 has great sub-tone... So for a brighter peice (I've decided for some reason to make myself available for the rock and roll set etc etc) I'm going for an Arnold Montgomery "Phoenix" and it will be a 7#. All this on tenor although I'm now playing 1st alto at concert band... and yes I'm the only alto but hey its something right.... Have a great day guys and don't forget to be awesome... 😎

Amazing sound!! Do you prefer plastic or metal resonators in your saxophone pads?

The SYOS sounds interesting to me. A little darker maybe than the one before it, but I think the sound has more body to it. I am curious how you feel about the response, articulation, intonation, etc., of that one. It is worth bearing in mind that mouthpieces of the same model can vary from one to the next, sometimes significantly, especially the facings, and that can affect the sound and playing qualities quite a lot. So, don't necessarily judge a particular model and facing of a mouthpiece based on just one example. I think the Meyer 5M is justifiably recommended as a standard alto mouthpiece for jazz, whether for a beginner or more experienced player. However, I would say that a #2 reed is quite a soft reed on such a mouthpiece, at least for someone with a more developed embouchure, and I could see why someone might feel they aren't getting a lot of projection out of such a mouthpiece with such a soft reed, and that the reed might tend to close off easily.

Hi Erena Terakubo, great saxophone playing and about mounthpiece to you it me seem as " they all sound the same" but for us, at least those with ears, could very much distingish between the different mouthpieces you have been using. And as your advice to practice is very true. For me I would have loved be able to read the brand & type of the mouthpieces you have been showing in closup but unfortunately all the brandnames & types where want we overhere call "flou" in other words, totally out of focus. Now, I really hope you do not mind me saying so but that was the only remarque that I felt need to say. I cannot blame if on you but hopefully you understand If nobody has the courage to say it, you might never know about that issue. But apart from that, if you ever are in Belgium for concerts I'd very much would like to attend at least one of them if possible. Myself I have been learning in my youth time during for four years but af that - I started playing music by learning myself to play the drums (a very big mistake as I discovered later on) and while I had a lot of work as a drummer in different bands, I almost forgot about the saxophone who had given me so much pleasure. So about a year of two ago I did rediscover the saxophone again. Unfortunately, while in music school following the percussion classes - from the beginning to end - I got used to reading notes (not as notes but as rythmic values on different parts of the drumset) dissapeard. So now I still am learnig reading notes as fast as possible. At the present time I am back at the level of concert band as Alto Saxophone 2, but my ambition is moving on and so I have to get the speed that I hear you playing so fantastically would be fine. but now we are 40 years later and it no longer goes into that speed that I wonder if it will ever come back and the second part of my question: would it be better switch from Alto Saxophone to tenor Saxophone? What is your advice on this? Thanks in advance and I used to be a huge fan of John Coldtrane, back then. Today I am a big fan of Erena Terakubo a fantastic saxophonist. Personally, I like the Syos the most. It's definitely darker, but to my ears it has more body than the Ken Okutsu.

The Okutsu is nice, but to my ear you get a sweeter sound out of the Lakey.

You sound great on all of them but my favorites are: Meyer and V16! I myself play a V16 S+ #6 after playing a Meyer 8 for years. Mention to the SYOS.
