Wine review of one of te most famous, or at least one of the most broadly distributed of all Bordeaux wines in the world, made by Baron Philippe de Rothschild wine producer (owner of chateau Mouton Rothschild). About 12 million bottles of Mouton cadet are made and 70% of it exported out of France.

great to have an expert talk about wines that are most commonly consumed and most accessible by virtue of their price points... thank you!

Thank Mark. Appreciate the comment indeed. I do thin there's a wine for everyone and every occasion. It's not always about spending a lot of money (that many of us don't have at that to spend on wine). As long as the wines are well made and taste relatively good, and are made in a respectful way for the environment it was grown on and for the consumer, they should be valued for what they are. Cheers

thanks much for the support and encouragements :-) means a lot and its motivating to keep sharing the passion. Good to know you appreciate the ones about French wine in particular. Guess that's where my main expertise is obviously. I love exploring around as well though and worked in quite a few different countries. I love tasting wines from elsewhere. Wine is about traveling in our imagination isn't it? Wish I had access to more US wines. Just hard to get by here in Europe. Where are you from?

Julien, I think your score and comments are accurate. I also agree that there need to be wines at every price point and for every palate. However I find it hard to recommend MC and would much prefer to drink wines at the same price from Spain, Portugal, Argentina or Chile. My opinion is that they deliver much more in terms of quality.

Sam Hauck hi Sam. Tx for stopping by 👍🏻 Absolutely, I have to agree. Wines from Spain, or Portugal, and even from around where I live in Languedoc Roussillon seem to provide better value for money. Perhaps should have mentioned it in the video. I generally try to focus on the wine itself in a review and understand what it’s got to say rather than comparing it. I guess there occasions when you want an affordable Bordeaux wine even if it’s not the absolute best value. The expression is a bit more restrained and tighter than most wines from warmer climates as well which can be welcomed and enjoyed sometimes 😀 But yes, you’ve got a good point here 🙏🏻👌🏼

Hi Wendy. I enjoyed it, I mean it's not a stunner of a wine, but as you saw I was happily surprised indeed about its fruitiness and approachability for the style and for the price. I try to bring out the positive side of the wines I try in these videos, relative to their pricing and with respect for people that are going to be able to afford them and enjoy them, as well as for the producers. Too many critics well indeed criticize too easily I find. Wines have positives and negatives, much like people. Would be great to hear your thoughts once you've tasted it :-)

Merci Julien for your input! I want to say that its 2 night in a row that the wine has given me some stomach upset. I do love the taste but I'm not sure what is in the wine that would do that? Thank you

OK, you have persuaded me to try it again! I recall an eccentric uncle who thought he knew about wine (he didn't) and who unveiled a 'special' bottle he had discovered and wanted to impress us with (we are a family of wine lovers and merchants). Imagine our disappointment when he proudly unveiled his treasured bottle of Mouton Cadet. We had to be polite but quite frankly it was poor! Pleased it's better these days!

Cheers Andy :) Yes, the name 'Bordeaux' on a label can be misleading 😅 Some people find 20+ year old bottles and think they've discovered a treasure because it says Bordeaux on the label. A $10 bottle of wine doesn't become any more valuable over time. If you're a family of merchants, then it would have been quite a shock indeed, others might have been fooled. You might appreciated the other 2 channels I make wine videos for, here: kzfaq.info/love/cKEdHaIX31LrywZmGwRUnw and here kzfaq.info/love/SHHB3SBhaygeRxzTBV5kMA Santé 😊🥂

I tasted this wine today. I can find some Tabaco and some hints of cedar. And I think it's from the oak barrel aging. Am I wrong?

Great video, Julien. An Italian friend introduced this wine to me in the UK about 15 years ago. It's also very common in Canada so I pick it up every so often. I have to say that I really like the 2016 year. I don't know how long it will last in stores but I pick up a case whenever I see it go on sale. A bargain at $10 USD/bottle! Somehow, I still seem to run out periodically. I'm not an expert, by any means, but I have the impression that this is a wine/year that is going to age well. Any thoughts on how long a wine like this can age? Also, please take down your video before too many people see it. This is a good little surprise bottle. haha
@YouTubeJulien
@YouTubeJulien 3 жыл бұрын
Lol Steve. Ok, will think about taking it down ;-) It's not really a wine made for cellaring very long, at this price... But Bordeaux wines, including this one, do age well, and should keep well for say around 5 years. You might find it's actually a little deeper and more complex around there. Perhaps it could actually age well for 7-10 years in good cool storage conditions. A lot of Bordeaux start getting really interesting after the 10-year mark. So because this is on the affordable end, I'd say 5-7 years, but if you like your wine quite matured, then perhaps more. Giv eit a go with a few bottles perhaps? Try one after 3, 4, 5 years, and see where the wine's at and if you think it's worth waiting any longer. When you find the right spot or the wine starts declining, go for the rest of the case. Does that sound like a plan?

A superior bottle of plonk, imo. Unbeatable in its price range.

Agreed, for a Bordeaux wine at least. There's plenty of great value wines elsewhere that one may like as much or better at that price, but for Bordeaux, it's decent quality and consistant at a price that's hard to beat for this level of reasonably good quality. cheers Martin :-) tx for stopping by

My first ever Bordeaux was a Mouton Cadet. 🍷😎. First date with a girl I was trying to impress.....that was a WHILE ago🤔🤔1980.... wow..... compared to my last Bordeaux - 2005 Chateau Giscours - was all for me! 😎😎. Nice video...great reminder that there are good Bordeaux “daily drinkers” that won’t break the bank!

Cool, glad to hear you enjoy Bordeaux wine. Have you watched my videos about Chateau Giscours yet? (see here: kzfaq.infosearch?query=giscours have a look at the winery tour and drone footage I made there at least: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLNpfKt1vLqnfmw.html ). I worked for Giscours for a while, I know the General Manager well. Also made quite a few Bordeaux videos on the channel (used to be a winemaker there), all gathered in this playlist if you feel like having a look around: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hq6PnZebyqqvZXU.html Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a kid note, looking forward to seeing you around. Excellent. Yes, it's a very decent wine for the price, that sounds cheap for HK indeed. It's on the low-end for Bordeaux but it's really quite pleasing and truthful to the expression of Bordeaux. Enjoy 😀🍷

Oh, thank you Wendy :-) It's much appreciated. My french accent is not overly pronounced (actually not very pronounced compared to most of my fellow citizens) which it probably a little less sexier than it could :-) Some kiwi in there too as I lived in New Zealand for several years. Thanks for stopping by and the positive comments. Santé!
