I'll echo what has been said about the aftermarket intake, common issue and we've seen the evidence on the dyno of this. I found the throttle a bit too lazy for my liking, some remove the electronic aspect of the throttle but I went the ITB route which has made a lot of difference. About that test drive, the 3SGE is low torque and quite weight sensitive so the three adult passengers will be affecting how it feels massively. Another pain point for me was the final drive, going from a 4.1 to 4.6 was a massive improvement to how it feels. I'm surprised the RS200 isn't more popular, perhaps because the IS200/IS300 is sold almost globally and is quite underwhelming in a world where turbos are popular. The lighter 4cyl and 50:50 weight split makes a lot of difference

Thanks for your input! I am looking into getting a stock intake because of that reason. Interested to see what difference it makes! Final drive seems to be a great idea, too. I second your thoughts on why this car is not as popular as other 90s cars. It is still a valuable package that is lots of fun! -Max

It is popular, but these cost here for x2 or x3 price of good condition is200 and mostly rhd is problem too

I almost got an Altezza RS200 instead of my Athlete V wagon in 2020, but couldn't find one for the condition and price I wanted. Then the Crown popped up for only 200,000 yen and I couldn't pass it up.

altezza good car. But a lil known fact that the aftermarket intake actually hinders performance due to it taking into much air

Nice looking car Max. I’m willing to bet that the intake might be giving you the issues with drive ability. If it’s anything like other Toyotas, the MAF/ ECU combo is very finicky.
