Our very first patron-selected movie reaction, the Tom Cruise sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow. We filmed this a while ago but I didn't make the time to edit it until recently, I'm sorry about that. Enjoy the reaction! Thanks for watching!

The ending song "Love Me Again" is surprisingly relevant actually. It's kind of referring to whether or not if Rita could love Cage again despite forgetting everything that happened between them.

I love this movie. I also love that they give him a version where he just bails (because you would) and a version where he gives up trying to save anyone (because you would do that too).

Edge of Tomorrow is a GREAT title for this movie. It was promoted wrong. The title reminds me of the Star Trek OS episode title City or the Edge of Forever.

It's a japanese style light novel. The main difference is that the ending is much darker in the novel, there are some hard choices. Hollywood gave it a more uplifting happy ending. I think the movie was plagued by questionable marketing and didn't do well at the box office, but it definitely became kind of a cult classic in time even with its shortcomings.

The marketing for this film was horrible. I remember the promos and I wasn’t the *least* bit interested in seeing it. Cruise had a slew of sci-fi films out around that time and this one just looked like another in the fray. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this one was actually *very* good. Caught it by chance and am glad I did. Such a good movie.

I think the visions of the Omega are real, but the mimics moved it and tried to use the visions to trap Tom Cruise. And I guess dying by bleeding to death means you can't reset the day because you need the blood to have that power. Eh. Works for me.

Oh yeah, this is one of the better sci fi movies. Really interesting that it is currently trending a little on KZfaq with at least 4 reactions now on it in the last month or so. Iirc the loop usually resets about 24hrs from his first ever death to the alpha. So the loop where he loses his ability is a bit tight, but still plausible: day to get the device from general, evening to wake up in hospital near base, night to recruit the team, very late night/very early morning heading across the channel from London to Paris, morning to see the normal assault to prepare while they are fighting at the Louvre.

Every person deserves a last kiss if they are about to probably die doing what they are going to do... Also I think that two beings having this sort of experience across dimensions would eventually grow a bond, like a form of Deja Vu thing or love at first sight, even if the temporal memory doesn't recall it.

"All You Need Is Kill," reminds me of a line from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "Death is your gift." An enigmatic being told her that several years in, and she had no clue as to the meaning, for a time. It is a "yes(?)," and then later a different "yes."

i actually read that manga last year, after i watched this movie. based on the settings and storyline in that manga (slightly different as in the movie), death is your gift could be the very motto for that main girl.

There aren't enough time loop movies This is honestly one of the best even if the aliens are a little generic and fall victim to the CGI cloning problem Boss Level is another good one, unfortunately it's locked to a streaming platform

I'd suggest watching Snowpiercer. Edge of Tomorrow / Live. Die. Repeat did well enough. More than double its budget, but was branded a flop because of Hollywood accounting. For $178M they would want the film to make $500M+ not $370M. They could make a sequel if they wanted.

This movie is an adaptation of a Japanese light novel and manga, probably the best adaptation made in the west of a Japanese IP. The original name is All you need is kill, they should've kept the original title honestly.

I think she knew she lost it because she lost the visions. I mean, you never KNOW know until you die, but the other mimic-blood features disappeared so it was a good guess

Excellent movie! Not to be confused with TOmorrow War. Live Die Repeat, would have been a great title that they didn't use. I don't think it ever adopted it. It was always a tag line. Wow, can't believe it's 8 years old. The only real problem I had with this film were the Mimics were just OP. Not sure if it kicked off the spiney, spinny, tentacley aliens we see a lot of nowadays. Eh.. Maybe that was The Matrix that did that. I like how Cruise's character isn't a hero at the start, but really chicken. Nate's reaction to the first reset was great. Never thought about that plot point of Blunt's character finding out she doesn't have the reset power...
@erickknutz5599

I'm not sure if it would count as a legitimate Mandela Effect, but at least one example of the confusion over which title they tried to market, is from the DVD/Blu-Ray copies. On the side panel it lists in huge letters Live Die Repeat, which is in an easy to read yellow lettering, and then below that is Edge of Tomorrow in deep red letters that is hard to see at all without a strong light source. And that is just one example of possible confusion, I can't speak to how it might have been similarly portrayed in advertising during the theatrical release, and possibly also in the titles for online streaming platforms.

The acting was impeccable from everyone. It was funny and only really intense at the end. I loved all the actors, the mimics, the costumes, and the special effects. That was a lot more interesting than focusing on the credibility and the title. I thought this was an excellent film and perfect with Tom Cruise. You seen to be not so much of Cruise fan.

Not exactly a "time loop" kind of time travel movie but rather a "overlapping timelines" kinda movie for you to enjoy is the British-American co-production between BBC and HBO named "FAQ about Time Travel". You can rent it on HBO Max. No one ever did a reaction on it on YT. Also don't miss the "Russian Doll" series from 2019 which is still on Netflix and will get its second season in 2 weeks. This is a time-loop themed dark comedy and also a very original take on the concept of "Groundhog Day". There is a time loop TV series called "Day Break" with a detective thriller style storyline back from 2006 which has 13 episodes in total and is worth a watch if you can find any streaming service which still offers it.
@Daneelro

The ultimate in the time loop genre is the German Netflix series Dark. If you want something written as intelligently as The Expanse, but with even better acting and movie-level cinematography, it will be your thing (and it's worth to watch it with subtitles). Your principle that no time travel film can be fully logical still holds, though.
@Daneelro
@Daneelro 2 жыл бұрын
On the consistency of time travel stories, my take is that any story in which the past is changed is inconsistent by default. I can see only two ways in which time travel can even remotely not contradict the theory of relativity: either there is one fixed timeline, and the time traveller cannot change it whatever he tries; or there are multiple branching timelines connected by the actions of the time traveller, but none of those timelines cease to exist or end at a fixed time just because she moved to another timeline. However, a story exploring the first of these usually ends up with a circular causal chain, which is ultimately pointless; and the second is depressing (the hero of the story might achieve his ideal outcome in a final timeline, but the bad outcomes continue to exist in the other timelines).

So the original maga had the plot of where both human characters had the "ability" and eventually one of them had to die to close the time loop.

If you throw some quantum physics in there there might be some relining of information past some of the road blocks making it i little bit non-linear. Who's to say that the blood they got when they didn't die had some tiny bit (1%) Alpha or Omega blood in it.

I really like this movie! It's great! Did you know that Tom Cruise saved a big amount of money by making getting into the mech suits competitive? In the beginning it took them like two to three hours to get into the suit. But then he made it a competition who could get in the fastest and by the end of filming I think they got down to half an hour or sth. I think the ending song makes sense because Cage would want Rita to love him again Also, I still really don't like this kiss... It doesn't make sense! Your gape when Cage dies the first time is amazing! ^^

Ok, your critique at the end of the movie is itself mostly flawed. Don't get me wrong you're reacting, which I have no problem with, but you're trying to find holes that are just mostly not there, starting with the very first comment, i.e. the song "I need to know will you love me again" COULDN'T BE MORE RELEVANT, because cage has fallen in love with her and wants to see if he can improve on the kiss before the last reset. Then you just keep digging imaginary holes from there.

Good reaction but you're cutting way too much, and it throws people off. You have to let some scenes finish, obviously the most significant ones and don't forget that people want to relive them and see how you react to them.
