Actually Gangs of Wasseypur was supposed to be 1 movie which was over 5 hours. Even in Cannes Film Festival the movie was shown as 1 movie which was over 5 hours. But since the duration is just too long to be shown in Indian theatres they divided the movie into 2 parts. Also quickly watch part 2. It's even better than part-1.

As someone who was born and raised in a city close to Wasseypur, I can confirm that this movie is loosely based on real life events that is the history of Wasseypur. I was in middle school when Shafiq Khan (Sardar Khan in the movie) was shot by guys on motorcycles at the Topchanchi petrol pump. Those days this part of the country was the wild wild west.

The guy Nawaz killed in that room was the same guy that sold the guns to him last time. But this time when Nawaz saw the guns he recognised that they were the same guns that this guy had "sold" to him the last time. So he got to know that he was the one who sold him out to the cops last time.

Also that guy 'Yadav Ji' was shot at the same spot he shot Shahid Khan. Right at the doorstep.

I remember when I first saw this movie. Even when I understand the language and context of Dhanbad, coal mafia and everything else. It took me atleast the third watch to appreciate the details put in it. Every character created by Anurag Kashyap in his movies requires a close watch as they come full circle! We sympathize as well as hate these characters at the same time. There are no heroes and villains in his movies. Anurag's movies are an ode to real life people, where there's no black and white. All of them the Khan's, Qureishis and Singh's are shades of grey. This movie is adapted loosely from real life coal mafia in the city of Dhanbad, it's all about money, greed and power!

That guy who is singing on stage is a pretty popular casting choice in bollywood movies when it comes to negative characters, goons and villains. He would have fit really well in the Wasseypur setting as one of characters involved in the story. I wonder why he was cast for this particular role instead.

Mirzapur inspired from gangs of wasseypur..but i dont like it bcuz idolize criminal..here gangs of wasseypur they make fun of it..which is hilarious..
