The joke about aquaman controlling wales is in the book. It follows when NASA finds out he is still alive and are contemplating what he may be thinking right there, left alone. In the movie they have replaced it with footage of Mark riding the rover and saying something like "I am going to die..... if I have to listen to any more of disco music". Btw, Andy Weir had said in numerous interviews that this was his favorite joke in book and felt little sorry that it did not make it to final version of the movie.

There's actually a really interesting psychological reason for that if you're interested. Humans are pack animals and very social creatures, when it comes to things like accents we actually adopt the accent of the majority of the group we are in and we actually do this pretty quickly. He was supposed to be isolated with them exclusively for an entire year, which got extended much longer. Because of this coupled with the fact that the entire rest of the crew is American, the accent would have shifted to meet his psychological needs as a pack animal to fit in and it would have done it subconsciously. The movie starts several months into the mission so his accent shift would've been apparent from the get-go

Nope. This fiction movie is about a fictional mission to Mars in a fictional spaceship that has spin gravity, which is a real scientific principle and currently a candidate to produce gravity for long travels. Very difficult, though. The ISS has nothing of that. And it's real.

It's not artifical gravity - it's spin gravity. And only in the parts of the ship, where it spins. The rest of the ship has no gravity.

Josiah Johnson I partially agree with you. Some of the casting in this movie is spot on, for example I think Chastain as Lewis, Mara as Johanssen and Damon as Watney are about as good as you can get. However, if we're being realistic, this story, which is set in the near future, would, quite simply, be more diverse. Beck could've very easily been African-American or mixed race without any change to the story (Cuba Gooding Jr, Terrence Howard might've been good fits). Johanssen could have been portrayed as biracial as well, by an actress like Kimiko Glenn, who is of Scottish-Japanese descent. Vogel could have first off been played by an actual German or at the very least someone who can pronounce "wurst", and doesn't have to represent what the rest of the world might depict to be a stereotypical German chemist. Yes the best actor for the job is necessary, and I think the cast is great, but they had a ton of flexibility with great actors from many different ethnicities, if you ask me.

It doesn't matter what race anyone could have been, sticking a black guy in the cast just to have a black guy is just as racist as intentionally casting whites only
