I actually liked the movie. Watch it first, then make an opinion. i went in thinking it was gonna be a shit show, but it was visually stunning, the sound effect were epic, and the actors look like they had fun. The story was a bit rushed and played second fiddle to all the scenery but it was a decent ending. Not the best movie, but a guilty pleasure I must admit. I wish they would write a part for Cara where she has to act. All of her parts in movies seem to just be her playing herself. The woman doesn't even have to act, so I Cant say she is a bad actress, but her parts are more like cameos.

Valerian is what Lucas based Star Wars on. This french comic is the zero point for a lot of Sci-Fi we enjoy today. I want this film to do well. I want to see Luc Besson expand this universe on film.
@benhudson79917 жыл бұрын
LUC BESSON!!!! But no sequels. That ain't Besson's style. At best this is kind of a Fifth Element sequel stylistically and thematically but that is about as close as Besson would probably get to a sequel. Who knows though maybe he will surprise me
It may have influenced Lucas into the space genre but other than the fact they both take place in space how was Star Wars based off of Valerian?

When I was a kid, I remember my dad letting me watch fifth element and making me covering my eyes in the parts where LELU got naked. When I think of those memories, fifth element sparked a romantic/sci-fi part of my imagination that I really couldn't find in any other sci-fi movie. This trailer brings back that feeling once again. About half way through the trailer you can feel the "fifth-element" vibe. From the ambient music, to the smooth graphic effect on the cgi, to the design of the ships and weapons...it's all there. The scene with the orange sun glasses is a total fifth element hint. What a great clip. I'll totally be seeing this.

+Fortkas You won´t regret collecting the comic book series the movie is based upon, and you will meet many places and scenarios the movie was alluding (and extrapolating upon in a fascinating and at times moving ways!) to in these comic books. They have been around since the late 70´s, when I first discovered them, and they have never not amazed and amused me since then. Very visionary, exciting, humoristic and visually stunning (in a light, playful and very French way). Best wishes!

This is the best sci-fi movie I have seen in years. The story develops quickly and steadily. I like how the background of the universe is introduced within mere a couple of minutes with a few handshakes, first with international astronauts, then with aliens. It is an example how immersive, yet extremely concise the story telling is. Luc Besson saved a lot of time on the main characters and the main plot. I held my pee through the whole movie. There is no toilet time during the show. The movie is that fast-paced and interesting!
@SuperShah2017 жыл бұрын
Everyone is shitting on this movie. Seriously? It's a fun sci-fi movie that is based on a classic; great graphic novel! ''A Thousand Planets? more like 1 green screen!'' Yeah like other movies never use a green screen when shooting a SCI-FI movie!"' ''a species of aliens relying on two dumb humans!'' Yeah, Star Wars' plot doesn't rely on humans right? What I'm trying to say is, is that we should be grateful that we have a fresh new movie that hasn't been made into the big screen before. It's a fun sci-fi movie. From what I've seen, it has great VFX,CGI, and awesome designs. Creativity is everything and we should respect that.
@charles15987 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it's hugely reliant upon CGI, which appears to be of a poor quality. Also the new stars films have been awful, I fell asleep in the last one. As a regular cinema goer, I've only ever fallen asleep in one other film: A Good Day to Die Hard. People want quality (Guardians of the Galaxy) not quantity (the new Star Wars films).
@samk61417 жыл бұрын
Don't you get it, people are never satisfied anymore. You wouldn't believe how many "shitty cgi" comments this movie gets lol
@ChevaliersEmeraude7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the disappointing part is that it IS based on a graphic novel, AGAIN! I mean, don't get me wrong, I love those movies, in general at least, but I'm kinda tired that Hollywood can't seem to hire writers, they just take stuff that are already been written and adapt it on the big screen. For once I'd like an ORIGINAL sci-fi movie! Or fantasy movie! Or heck, Hollywood, why don't you create your own originial team of superheroes? And by original, I also meen "good", obviously. Not the Jupiter Ascending or, worse, Passengers, we got. But, like I said, I applaud those two movies for at least being original stories, not based on anything written before. Seems like that's rare nowadays... :(

it have WAY to much cgi focus and the chases were out of tune. A movie need more than effects to hock your intrest. Story, the ability to connect to the character just to mention 2 things matter more. Look at the original jurassic park which does have cgi but for most parts is built sets as well as robot models for the dinosaurs come to mind....that came out in 1993 and it still looks great. If the trailer is all this movie got to offer it will stink worse than ghostbusters 2016 or jupiter returns. For a great sci fi look at firefly ( cult tv series ) or the movie serenity. Another good option would be the starwars movies and the impact they have had. Jupiter returns....can't even put the impact from that movie on the map. Not that it were a complete stinker but try to find a decent fanbase for that one...I wait here. Edit, actually another poster in another thread under this trailer gave this comment on the matter "two words...john carter". I think that says it all really.

@Turboy652 жыл бұрын
Not sure what I expected, but having watched it, I can say that it had a surprisingly strong story and visually it's a treat bordering on the overwhelming. As is typical of Luc Besson movies, it starts out very chaotic, with a story that is not clear until well into the movie. It simplifies itself and resolves well in the last act. The lead actors are less than memorable. This movie is strong on visuals and story content, but would have benefitted from better choices for the lead characters. I do remember Rutger Hauer in one scene. But the names of the leads? Don't remember. And casting Rihanna was just pandering to pop culture, although I admit she did a very good job.

This is what Mass effect Andromeda should have been! different varieties of alien species, cool spacecrafts and awesome facial animations, is that too much to ask for from a AAA game that was in development for 4+ years and 40 million budget ?...

but it actually does look like this....

i don't know, i think people actually look like people here.
@kadahshajay847 жыл бұрын
Jude Ceant I actually meant the diversity of the alien species, all MEA gave us new is Angaaran and the kett, seriously when you are going to a whole new galaxy wouldn't there be at least ten(for eg) new species. it's colourful the action sequences are great, but still for a new galaxy what they gave us in Andromeda is nothing.
@B_fliwa7 жыл бұрын
it is not the whole andromeda Galaxy. its just some tiny part of it. there are no mass relays in it so you could travel everywere. but some more would be nice indeed.

All the thumb-ups. This is the original that spawned everything you children have seen for the past 40 years. I wonder what Luc Besson and Guillermo del Toro could come up with if they worked together.
@ultimate177 жыл бұрын
lmao spawned everything we've seen for the last 40 years? hahahahaha...good one stud.

17, you must not read comics.
@Aodiwnahdkwbab7 жыл бұрын
Not to burst your bubble but Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who all predate this. I'm not saying this movie and/or comic is bad or wrong, but saying that it spawned everything we've seen is a stretch at best.
@TotteNesh7 жыл бұрын
Not star wars as it's 10 years later (1977) as "Valérian and Laureline" was 1967. But, yes: Dr Who 1963 and Star trek 1966. More that it's one of the things that spawned everything. Perhaps not "the thing".

Give it a chance, people; it's Luc Besson.

Isn't this too juvenile for him? I cringed at the line, "I taught him that"!

Why should a creator be confined to a certain style of content? Though it's not my cup of tea, it paid off for Robert Rodriguez when he made Spy Kids. Besson may be targeting a different demographic, but it still might be a fun flick.

The movie was watchable but man. The delivery of the story was confusing yet predictable. Some action sequences felt very I mean VERY forced/unnecessary. The romance felt very generic. Rihanna's character looked like it was made so she could be casted somehow. Overall the Movie felt like it was 4 movies mashed up into one. I genuinely wanted to like the movie but... (sigh).
@izzyhinchliffe3266 жыл бұрын
yes !! i totally agree to even start to explain this movie and what i just witnessed (baring in mind that i saw it about 4 hours ago) would be so bloody hard to do and confusing bc the plot is so baffling from a viewing perspective ! i thought the movie dragged on for waaaay to long and i actually had more fun watching the emoji movie last week and that really is saying something

Let's Hope that there is some kind of Director's Cut version that puts all the stuff back in that is needed to actually have a coherent plot.

i think the movie will be pretty good. the trailer didn't spoil anything and the music also fitted. And I even think it's a good thing to have actors in a movie which aren't that famous in the movie business. A great chance for them :)

This like the book is a film that was way ahead of its time even though it took Luc Besson so many years to finally bring it to life. It was so much fun and a dream to watch. Now, if someone could just ask Luc Besson to back a Saga film or TV series that would be incredible because is the only person who can bring that story to life!

that movie was doomed from the start, way to big of a budget at 200+ million and another 100 million for marketing. The plot really wasnt aimed at children, which disney is known for. It was a decent movie, just not a big budget movie. After that money pit, we have seen disney be safe with movies and doing live action for all there old movies
@blakereardon18587 жыл бұрын
To be fair every time disney has tried going out of there comfort zone in the last decade they've just been slapped down. But maybe they should be a bit more cautious with things like that
