In Salem, Massachusetts, America's leading mansion mover, Jerry Matyiko, attempts to shatter records with the biggest building move of the year. He faces the task of lifting and moving a 1,000-ton church to a new site where it will be redeveloped into a Courthouse Law Library.
The structure is weak and contains a vast auditorium that could cave in during the move if unsupported. Jerry's team must build a grid of steel inside and outside the structure to hold it together during the downhill move. Can the team complete the move before winter storms strike?

Why didn't they just change the new building plan as the way that it will include the church, so, they don't have to move and it will cost less..?

Perhaps because they dont want to sacrifice half of the usable space of their new building. Also its pretty bad form to have a church inside your courthouse... if you dont keep church & state separate sometimes you end up burning witches. I understand theyre a little sensitive about that in Salem.

Lifting a building with air pressure is so dangerous The reason the jacks are leaking OIL is because they are using hydraulics.

I caught that one too. They could NEVER pick that up with air, just not strong enough. That's why brakes on cars are still hydraulic. Wonder what this move cost? Five million dollars??

Why not build an identical one? Because it's not allowed under modern building code. Why not build a new one that looks the same but meets modern building code? Because the permitting process will take forever.

Just a couple of questions... 1. Why didn't they leave the church where it was and build the new court building in a mirror image so the old church was the right wing instead of the left wing? 2. Wouldn't it have been a good idea to check the condition of the foundations on the lower and final resting place BEFORE they lifted the 1000 ton building off its foundations? I mean I don't know... I've never moved a 200 year old, 1000 ton church in my life but if anyone ever ask me to, I think those would be the first questions I would ask? Just saying!

The job itself is very interesting. The pessimistic and patently staged dramas are an unfortunate way of talking down to the viewers. At one point the hydraulic lifting hoses are referred to as airlines. They can't even get their basic facts right. Amazing feat to have moved this building without damage, but could the new courthouse design not be altered to include the church on its original foundations?

In the beginning, you showed the Witch and made it sound like she was "Cursing" the move, and that wasnt the case. You then showed her exercising demons. Why be so deceptive?
