I am 73 and used to have hair longer than Timothy. What I eventually learned from that- I was pretty slow, it took time- was that a number 5 crewcut allowed me to operate better and live a far more exciting life and still score the chicks man. So my advice to Mr Tim is to get such a haircut, a white shirt with epaulettes, a bow tie and an admiral Peary cap and live the bloody life through those slings and arrows of under confidence. A voice trumpet wouldn’t go astray for imperial directions from the bridge. Gotta show more authority. He is good but a bit of panache will scare the deck crew.
@TimBatSea
@TimBatSea 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel.. I assume you mean Luke and not Tim. (Tim has the very short white hair). And Luke is a retired USMC veteran who had short hair for longer than he wanted and is now enjoying civilian life and long hair. CUOTO
@danmc7815
@danmc7815 5 ай бұрын
I would second the short hair recommendation, if one wants more female companionship. But if it works for Luke, it works. Also, I am with Luke in that I am never going so short as to have just stubble. I was forced to do that once by the government, and I am never doing it again. Now, I just pray for more hair on top of my head. Luke looked like he did that docking like he was running an old single-screw boat. Slow, steady, letting the current help, and just let it happen. The best boat handling is when you put your vessel in a position that what it wants to do is what you want it to do. Not sure I would have pulled off of the berth at Bridesburg as Luke did. But I do not know Bridgesburg, so no room to critique it. In any event, it seemed to go in a way that made both Luke and Tim happy, so that says much. Nice work. CUOTO!

@danmc7815 I'm pretty sure that Luke isn't having any female companionship issues. Hell, he is a smooth operator and I'm pretty sure that I saw a ring on the Port hand to chase the women away, or at least thin them out. He probably finds himself and 10 ladies whenever he's in the Produce section at the grocery gettin place. Another great video Tim and thanks to the crew for allowing us to see you, and your duties. Definitely interesting stuff for sure. Total professionals.

That bit where getting underway, where the radio came alive and the crew taking "your spot" called in. Interesting to see the difference in fluidity of response between Luke and the old-sea-dog Tim. So they were proactively calling in to address any risks of being unknown & to be good to those that they would encounter. A good bit of documentation of how the risks of contracting for both the barge and tug companies are addressed....how is boat-barge compatibility referred to in the industry?

As far as radios, do you use a Marine Band channel to talk to the AB and the Tankermen or a non-marine band business radio? Also is there VTS down by Philly? CUOTO!!
@TimBatSea
@TimBatSea 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yea. Only intrinsically safe radios can be allowed on an oil/chemical barge and these are all marine radios. Now USCG VTS here the pilots do operate "Philadelphia Maritime" which is similar. CUOTO

Luke / Tim Did you use the "COG predictor" for the departure / transit / arrival during this voyage ... just curious as it was not mentioned in the video. I really appreciate the dedication to quality that is obvious in these Tuesday gems. Stay safe ... CUOTO / CUOT2

When he makes the securite call as you prepare to leave and says heading for and names the bridges ... am I correct that this does not count as a call to open said bridges, however those bridges would have heard that call and will be prepared for his later call to open ??
@TimBatSea
@TimBatSea 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yes. A security call is for other boat traffic. A lift or swing bridge needs a separate call. CUOTO
