I only use forks to set bails for my cattle. You will find a bale spear does not hold the bails as well because quite often the center of the bail is not rolled very tight and the bales tilt more easily but the outside of the bail is much tighter and the forks will support it and hold it better. Just a side note when the bail 1st landed in there that is the best way to leave them because if you get rain it will help shed off the water like a thatch roof instead of allowing the water to soak into the middle if it takes them more than a couple days to eat it.
