In this video I show you the moving bed bio filter that I have set up in my aquaponic system. These filters are a little small for my set up. In particular due to the flow rate that I have the system running on. But they work decently.

that is drip hose on that airator you can buy that at any home depot for a resonable amount its by the watter hoses

How did the square manifold work as I'm thinking of doing the same cause of the fine air stones I have not moving the k1 cheers

It didn't perform as I liked at the time of the recording. I will try it again later when I decide which air pump I want, and when I make the air manifold I mentioned in the video. You can see here that I mention it not working 9:45. However after watching the clip when I edited the video, I am guessing that the reason it didn't work at that time is due to that factor that the media wasn't pushed down completely. (Which I am guessing is the same reason why the stainless steel round one that I bought wasn't circulating the media.) The bio media wasn't completely in the water which might have had an affect on the circulation of the bio media in the filter itself.

nice video!! If I make this filter, how often should I clean this filter media????

It depends on the feeding ratio and amount of waste in the system. But this filters main purpose is for bacteria growth so doesn't capture the most gunk. In addition the aerator moving the media further reduces the amount of solids this particular filter captures. So cleaning is a minimal. But you can drain it out once every month, once every 6 months, or once a year. Depending on preference and feeding ratio. The more you feed the more waste is produced. And in terms of cleaning, if you have a drain setup on it you don't have to remove the media or anything like that. All you gotta do is drain it out and stir it up with a stick or something.

like the way you have set that up my friend im currently building a moving bed ibc filter take a look if you want im still looking at different ways to set it up so at the moment im going to run a 4 inch pipe from the inside of the tank connector right across and put slots right across it then thinking of partitioning the ibc into two halfs and have static on one side and moving on the other what do you think buddy ?

Ya that will work. And the big IBC tote will allow for more media and therefore more surface area for beneficial bacteria growth. If you have the space I would also implement some sort of solids settler/ catchment filter before the moving bed bio filter.
