Hey Tom! Just a suggestion you mention about an unwell cow feeding off the hay over other forage, try feeding quality straw typically that's what ours will favour (for the fibre) helps with overcoming acidosis :)

Those type of trailers are fun to reverse. The rigs I used to drive round the airport carrying bags had those sort of trailers. Reversing one was ok but when you had 3 in a row it was impossible.

Your not the only one that struggles reversing those trailers Tom, we used our manitou to move it around the yard, seems slightly easier with 4 wheel steer
@johndawkes7339
@johndawkes7339 6 жыл бұрын
They are easier with four wheel steering, but they are much easier with a pivot steer, but you 'could' hitch to the front of the tractor and push it to make life a bit simpler if you don't have the other options. I spent my early agricultural life pushing and pulling these things around as we had loads of them for hay and straw carting.

Dolly steer or turntable hitch. If you have a hitch on the front it makes pushing the dolly so much easier. I do it with a Traction engine.
@darrannewman7113
@darrannewman7113 6 жыл бұрын
Yup it's a 4 wheel rully/dolly, great to tow, a bitch to reverse, hitch it to the front of the towing vehicle much easier. Some of those bales looked like west yorkshire puff balls, a bit slack on the bands. When we used to bale them they were tight and heavy, and as with straw they were stacked cut edge out on the trailer.
@dans6127
@dans6127 6 жыл бұрын
I have always just called them hay wagons. and they do suck to back up, you have to remind yourself to turn the opposite way of normal trailers and it takes more movement to get the back to swing because the dolly has to swing first. hard to explain it just takes practice.

In NA, if it has a front axle that turns, two pivot points, it is a wagon. If it hooks directly to the tractor, with one pivot point, is a trailer. Axle count is typically by the rear axle(s).

Masseyman6480 I never said it was "double axle". In fact, I dont know how its called in english. I know that if translated from lithuanian, that trailer is simply "trailer", and if we removed the front axle's wheels - it would be "semi-trailer" (not the one which goes with a truck)

What you call the trailer must differ depending on where in the world your are. I would've said that a dolly trailer has a dolly that can be removed and put on the front of another. The trailer you emptied I know as a turntable trailer or a "pigguva trailer" because it's a pigguva thing to reverse.

This was just a hay wagon were I grew up. They all had double axles. Most ha a back rack on them. And they are a devil to steer because you need to do the reverse of what's intuitive and well in advance as it seems to take forever for the steer to transmit to the back wheels. You should set up some pillons topped with tennis balls in a pattern out in the harvested wheat or hay field and have a contest to see who keeps the most balls and who 'jack-knifes' the best - or, rather worst. I've driven this combination since I was 5, driving it down between the rows of bales on the field as my older brothers loaded the hay onto the wagon( someone put it in gear, released the clutch and set the throttle before jumping off the 5 miles per hour tractor). I had to hold on to the steering wheel and jump off the seat with both feet onto the 'locked together' clutches to get them depressed to stop the ol' International as I was too light to just step on it. By the end of my 14th summer, I was so good at it that my older brother or mother would drive in from the field and then leave it to me to back it up next to where the elevator rested on a 50 gallon drum, to unload it. Dad was best at it, though he admittedly wasn't a farmer and worked full time of the farm. But, he was the one we had to wait to for, if we busted up anything so badly that it needed welding to fix it. Knocking that drum and tipping the elevator, electric motor and all into the mud was one of the easiest ways to create work for Dad. While it did get you noticed, it didn't do anything to make you popular.

when you ever again have to reverse those trailers just turn it around und but something like a towingbar on your traktor and attach it at the back hitch of the trailer and than steer by hand on the shaft while the traktor is just pushing its then just licke you driving forward only disadvantage is that you need 2 persons and when your trailer doenst have a hitch at the back,then you just have bad luck ;D sorry for the bad english im from germany
