Wow man. My wife and I are headed up to Iqaluit in September and are having a massive challenge finding lodging anywhere near affordable (it doesn't exist). Nunavut has been on my list for awhile, only NWT left for me. I know I'm going to enjoy your series, keep up the great work!

Hey, just discovered your channel, when I was doing some virtual Nunavut tourism. I’m an elementary school ESL teacher in Quebec. If you ever need material, I compose my own songs, and there are activity sheets that go with them. It’s ESL for French speaking kids, but it could be useful for you. And the songs are pretty good, much better than public domain nursery rhymes anyway.

Thanks for documenting your experiences and travel around Iqaluit. I worked for the then named Fisheries Research Board in 1970. At 17 yrs old, I found a summer job near my home west of Montreal, introducing me to Dr Edward Grainger, he sending me to then called Frobisher Bay, helping prepare launch and work with scientists on board MV Calanus. While it is a stark and shrubless most times, your capture of the ground hugging plants and a Bee? Thanks for the memories. David Lynch

I just liked your video about the blizzard, and when I clicked the like button it said "this video does not exist". Did it get blown away by the blizzard or what? You're so lucky to be stuck in a blizzard in Iqaluit, that sounds like so much fun (yes I mean that, and yes I'm weird). Besides you kinda had that coming for your crack about Ottawa being the same temperature as Iqaluit. You pissed of mother nature, lol. Good luck with that! ;)

I lived in Iqualuit from May to September in 1987. It used to be called Frobisher Bay but they changed it that summer I think. Anyway, if you think rent is expensive, wait until you go buy food. It's cheaper to order 1000 bucks worth of food from Montreal and just fly it in.

Hi! I just found your channel! I'm a teacher too but south in Northern Manitoba. ... BUT .... My biological Mother and many family from her side resides in Iqualuit! I never met them (yet) but I would love to one day! The most northern place where I taught was Brochet, Manitoba and it was a fly-in-only community. Are you still teaching there this year?? Many of the schools around me have been either 1/2 time in-person or remote-learning due to Covid. .. ... The school where I teach has been open the whole entire 2020/21 year so far. (I teach in Cormorant Lake but I live in The Pas.) I'm looking forward to watching your other videos ... Take Care! ☀😊

I am curious to know what they pay you to teach there? It's got to be more than if you were working anywhere else in Canada right? Because how else would you/anyone be able to afford an apartment and the move down there otherwise. The other thing I don't understand is why so often they have to outsource for these type of jobs, and do you see that changing in the near future seeing as that there are more young people there now than ever before, which means they should be seeing their own baby boom so to speak, should they not? Would it not be easier for the government to put more funds into training the people who are already there to do jobs like yours, seeing as that would help with their housing costs and they already live there, and don't plan to leave? I'm not criticizing you for being there, or taking the job (they wouldn't hire you if they didn't need you obviously). I'm just a little confused as to why they need you there (no offense intended). Who knows maybe you can inspire some of your students to want to become teachers themselves!
@Evantures
@Evantures 4 жыл бұрын
Great question, and you'd be correct. Pay is significantly higher (2nd highest in Canada) for that exact reason. No offence taken. As much as I love it up here my hope is that my position won't be necessary anymore... and there is an NTEP (Northern Teacher Education Program) in place from the Nunavut Arctic College here in Iqaluit. It's still a small program and doesn't produce nearly enough qualified Inuktitut teachers, but it's a start. Thanks for your concern , and for watching !
