Moving Large Aquariums | Tips and How We Did It

This video shows how to move large aquariums. We took extra precautions along the way to make sure the fish were healthy and to keep the tank established.
Moving is already stressful on its own, but when you have aquariums it can be very tough to handle. Hopefully this video will provide some tips and tricks for you, if you have to move you tanks one day.

Those stairs looked pretty steep. Paul Cuffaro just broke on of his tanks on his lawn.

Man I know the struggle. I had to move from From Florida keys to north Florida 7 tanks. Let's say it was more expensive to move the fish than moving my family. Great video.

Man, does this bring back memories. I moved my setups from apartment to apartment, from house to house and finally, when I was done with college, settled down and have been in the same house now for many years. When we talk about moving to a new house, I think about the fish room downstairs and have a little anxiety over it. LOL. Side note... I knew a guy back in the day who lived in a tent for one summer (after some unfortunate life changing events) and he set up his 40 Gallon in the tent with him, as not to give up his hobby or his fish... anyway, this just reminded me of the lengths we will go to take care of the things we love. I really appreciate you guys. I just got a 36 gallon tank and I already have a 16 gallon. I'm looking to move and the thought of doing it with fish was really stressing me out before

Walmart sells expensive 'food grade' 5g buckets, use those. Just make sure they are not contaminated, like a Home Depot bucket. Use a food grade BPA free container when transporting and clean it with tank water. **Your tank looks well done, I like it!

I have to move a 110 gallon tank, that is on heavy buffet cabinet. I need to move it maybe 5 feet. To have new flooring installed. I don’t want to take out the fish. It is very thick glass.

PS, you could probably do goldfish. My parents had goldfish in their outdoor pond. That thing would freeze over with a couple inches of ice**** from time to time and the fish were alive and well in the spring. Pretty sure you get colder weather than Washington, but goldfish may be an option. They get big in a pond too.

I’ve been debating on goldfish actually. Might be one of the better options to keep in there over winter. Lot of research to do lol

Cichlid Bros they get big in a pond. Everyone thought they were young koi lol. Watch out for predator birds, make sure the fish have a nice hiding spot or they will turn into a nice bird snack 😂

Hey, thanks! The sand is actually mixed african cichlid sand from Carib Sea. I currently have three severums, the red spotted and turquoise in the 75, and a small red shoulder in the 38

I have the same exact tank and bottom. Only moving it from one room to the next so not draining it all the way. any suggestions on how to lift?

Maybe some livebearers or some locally caught fish depending on the laws. The locally caught fish would already be accustomed to the temp fluctuations.

michael levesque nice! A few other cichlids that could likely go well with those guys would be firemouths, oscars, severums, green Texas, or red terrors. Although they are all pretty aggressive, so back up plans are always good to have

Hoping to move my 40g with the sand in, all that is in there is a single common goldfish with 2 sponge filters ill keep in a bucket with water

I have a 100 Gallon fish tank that has 10 cichlids. I am putting new flooring. Would it work if we get a pond liner that holds 50 to 100 gallon put the fishes in there with filter while flooring is done and then move them back to the 100 gallon fish tank? How long would I be able to keep the fishes in the pond liner if possible? Thank you!!

Pond looking good i hope you used pond for cichlids but i know Chicago Weather not good for cichlids in winter times For pond you have to watch for the pund guy KZfaq channel is so much information about pond good luck have fun

Does it matter what type of plastic tub you use? I’m trying to transport a *black ghost knife* 2 hours away from a 20 gal to a 55. He is 12 inches or more so I don’t see him going into a Home Depot bucket

Most plastic totes will be just fine as long as they’re sturdy enough to hold water

Goldfish would probably work for the pond. Quite tough, and don't get as big as koi. Wakin goldfish look especially awesome in a pond.

Yeah if it’s not on the ground floor, would definitely recommend approval from an engineer and/or reinforce the floor

I would just recommend keeping the filter media wet so the bacteria doesn’t die off completely

What’s the biggest jack dempsey you’ve seen or heard about? I read an article that said they get 15 inches.

That would certainly be a large JD! I think they largest I've seen in person were around 10-12 inches, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

I came up with that idea a friend of mine's her father has a a koi pond in his backyard that's how I came up with an African cichlids pond he keep them outside I don't know how he do it but yeah here in Chicago

Recently I have moved from 75 g to 125 g..I decided to purchase a kids pool which could accommodate all my fish and Aquarium water..but it was just moving my fish to new tank..
