DJI's All in one Solution, combined with Sigma's Contemporary lenses is a killer combination for smooth, quality footage right out of the box.

Good review ! I second what you are saying after being a Camera op for 30 years . Placing stable master shots anywhere in 3D space , augmented with buttery smooth micro dolly shots make this tool phenomenal. Keep this camera relevant DJI !

Love this style, Brandon Li is a master of this. I believe in keeping the system small as it allows flexibility.

HEY! Can I ask you a short Question? Do I need the Zenmuse X9 Focusmotor to focus. I saw, you don't use one. I would like to order the same sigma lenses as you use in the clip. Can I use the active track?, the autofocus or have I focus with the wheel on the grip? THX a LOT Andre

Ronin 4D works best with small AF lenses upto 1 kilo, but support manual focus lenses as well. It’s just more laborious to work with.

So its best use is in motion, probably the most expensive side camera 📷 😅 Great review as usual!

This couldn’t be a more well put together review of the 4d in use except that we don’t really see the master shot finally graded and post stabilised. The 4d promises so much but unfortunately I find the camera stability questionable and there is often a visible reframing effect when the camera frame rests between movements. It’s just not convincing and compared to a steadycam or larger gimbal and vest set up or even a dolly jib combo it just doesn’t look smooth and convincing enough. It’s such a shame. Maybe it needs a proper arm or ready rig? I have tried to love it but I found myself using it like Michael Bay rather than Stanley Kubrick. It just doesn’t enjoy considered unmotivated movement. The lens choice too seems really problematic or really it’s the lack of lighting. If it’s not focal depth then the scene and the movement really gets help if the camera can move through shadow and have subjects move between key and backlit blocking. I haven’t seen anything better than the original launch shots by Messerschmidt using very fast leica cine primes. It’s just physically not a substitute for real techno crane or trinity movement. But thanks for the video and the considerable effort and care that was put into this and any of this channels videos. Hugely appreciated as always.

Did you really expect a $7000usd camera gimbal to replace a $60K trinity and $150K technocrane combined... Wow!

@@sergiosanchez2012 hi. Yes and no. The trinity is an expensive piece of kit but the motion fundamentals are the same as picking up a broom. It’s basic physics and more specifically the principles of “fulcrum moments” and “inertia”. Google it if you don’t believe me. That’s what a steadycam uses as its basic fundamental principle. A gimbal even the most basic one on the end of a monopod would illustrate the point just as well. It’s all about counter balanced movements around a fulcrum point. The trinity and gimbals do this under power from the motors to help with weight and camera orientation but the principles are the same. What the 4d does is wholly ignore these fundamental principles and tries to solve the situation only using motors and a compensatory feedback system to control them built into the gyro. In the trinity this is a dampening system and a camera support system but it adheres to the most basic fundamentals of moments around a fulcrum point. The 4d does not and actually completely ignores these first principles of physics and so it introduces issues that create wholly unnatural artefacts that jar. We wouldn’t get these kinds of artefacts having the camera on the shoulder as we have a fulcrum point. Fundamentally it’s how we see and process movement. Our brains compensate for natural movements. The 4d introduces an unnatural movement that could never be seen naturally and so it jars with our brains perception and functioning and so the movement is interpreted as unnatural. We don’t see or process movement like a chicken. All this can be achieved by sticking a gimbal on the end of a monopod and again if you are in any doubt maybe check out Tilta a version of the principle is used in the float system which is exactly a poor man’s trinity.
