Great info! I love taking the bus from St. Philips to Oistin's fish fry on Friday and its only 2 BBDS! Missing the sun in Dublin already it seems like it went away so quickly. I'm looking into getting some pepper sauce and Bajan seasoning sent to me from family in BIM in the next couple of weeks. Let me know if you would like anything :)

Unfortunately bus fare is $3.50 BBD now, not as cheap now by comparison. Getting these little glimpses of sun so far this week, but becoming all cloud after a few hours. That's an awesome offer, I'll have to check my supplies. I've got two packets of bajan seasoning left, but the pepper sauce bottle looking near empty 😅. Can I get back to this weekend?

Hi, which area would you say is the best coast , e.g affordable for an expat, close to amenities, safe neighborhoods,activities, city center, etc.? Thanks 😃

Hi. I'm partial to the South Coast. West Coast is marketed as the coast for 'big spenders'. Besides being close to the airport, it's easy to get to Barbados' main towns - Oistins, Holetown, Speightstown and Bridgetown along the highway and main roads. Suburban neighbourhoods are scattered across Barbados, but the biggest collections are in St. Michael, Christ Church and St. Philip (though that's a bit more south east). South coast also has its tourist belt and proximity to St. Michael so most amenities, would be gathered more in the south west portion. Transport on the south coast would lead back into Bridgetown and vice versa. But because the island is so small, you're not going to have a great variance in cost of living moving from one area, and naturally the closer to the sea you are, the more expensive renting may be.

I'd agree that transport isn't as cheap as it used to be since the bus fares rose. But in comparison to the London Tube where I was paying around $50-$60 BBD for a trip from my uni into London. It's also cheaper than catching the bus in Dublin, and as a flat fare that doesn't vary based on distance, the fare doesn't climb as much. In addition, taking into account the income levels, since it's $50k US minimum income and the application fee is $2-3K US. Utilising the bus system wouldn't hurt the pocket. For your average Bajan, bus fares increasing over 100%, takes any cheapness out of the equation, but for the higher income earners that the Welcome Stamp is targeting, it wouldn't be a hard pill to swallow.

Hey thank you so much for the context. Is there an area/neighborhood young adults/families live? I’m a single 30 year old female wanting to move there for a year to get away from the US and build my online business. Here in Chicago we have a neighborhood called Hyde Park where a lot of young black adults and families live. It’s new. Cool. Youthful. Artsy with the coolest shops near Lake Michigan. Are there any areas like this?
