I'd like to add that the Eugene Airport makes living here well connected with whole America and the world. There are several direct flights from Eugene to some major cities, where you can attend conference, take tours or travel further.

How about the most homeless per capita, the high rate of property crime, the bad air quality in the Willamette Valley, the rats in almost every neighborhood (better check crawl spaces and attics), the HIGH cost of living, the lack of affordable housing, the dysfunctional city and county government. I live in Eugene so I know! Welcome to Eugene!

I just moved out of Eugene recently after living there almost my whole life.... it used to be an amazing place to live but has gone downhill in a bad way recently. Rampant homelessness, out of control tweakers, and soaring rent prices makes the once gorgeous Emerald City into a dirty and quite dangerous place to live. Great video with true facts.... just shedding some light on the flip side of that coin

My son is about to fly over to Eugene (from Sydney, Australia) to attend Lane CC and be part of their men's soccer program. My wife and I are disappointed that we will not be able to fly over with him (due to Australian covid border closures) because it looks absolutely beautiful. Hopefully we will get to visit him and the area at a later date when international travel is up and going again.

I'm planning on moving. I live in Michigan and can't drive due to epilepsy. But walking is something I can do! And the thought of walking in such comfortable temperatures after being in the Midwest cold sounds wonderful. I love rain, so that's not an issue. Thank you for the video.

@@shannons842 Once you've lived in a region where it's 30 degrees Fahrenheit or colder 7 months out of the year, 6 inches of snow on the ground from Nov - April, and a solid sheet of ice on the roads during that whole time - Rain is nothing.

@@starrystarrynight52 you can keep snow off of you...rain penetrates your clothes and soaks everything not even gore-tex keeps it out. Look at the precipitation numbers and the amount of rain fall is life sapping.

Leaving Eugene was the hardest thing that I have ever done and I have always regretted my decision. I married a pediatrician who had been coming out to Eugene for 3 years old my mistake was to move to Denver and I have come back to Eugene or the Coast many times and I can finally leave and live where I know that I will be much happier and the ocean drags you to the most beautiful places that are untouched. It is my idea of heaven 🙃

I'm sorry but you need to be a little more forthcoming with regards to the homeless situation. Oregon ranks 2nd with regards to the homeless crisis; California is first. If you come to Eugene be prepared to see drug addicts, human feces, needles, tents every 20 feet along the Willamette River. It is disgusting and nothing is being done about it. Just today Oregon House passed a bill protecting homeless from arrests and camping in the public. If you are a moderate democrat be prepared to get accused of being a conservative , or if you don't believe in BLM be prepared of being accused of racism. It is crazy extreme left politics. Just search on KZfaq and you will find many videos of how bad Eugene really is. Dystopia Eugene is alive and happening people. Due serious research before you decide to move here.

Please don’t move to Eugene. We have a high homeless population, actually #1 by capita last year with it only getting worse not better. Agressive panhandlers and laws and leaders that encourage the behavior not discourage it. Which brings more flooding in. Trash, feces and needles abound. Riots, protests and no police response even though the City of Eugene City Council just enacted a payroll tax on anyone who works or lives in Eugene that gives millions to law enforcement. The highest taxes in the area. Shortage of housing which leads to moronic homes prices. But if none of that phases you, it rains 8 months out of the year growing moss on everything...not just rain, but gray dark winters with depressing drizzle. Better that you move to New Mexico, Nevada or California. We are saving up to move to Texas.

I live in Dallas, Texas. You want to switch places lmao? You can keep Dallas all you want with it’s ridiculous sales tax, awful housing market, homelessness (yup, we’ve got plenty of that too!), horrible weather, bugs everywhere, illegal immigrants, road rage, traffic, horrendous politics, gun violence, and tons of soulless concrete suburban shitholes with the most uptight conservatives you’ve ever met. I live in Austin where home values are so ridiculously overblown, tent cities everywhere you go (except the wealthy areas, of course), the traffic could make you kick a dog, summers are so hot you cant really do anything and in the winter power shuts down and pipes freeze, everything interesting has a mile long list of people queuing, everything sells out in seconds, the government actively hurts people and when the weather is mild there's not really that much nature to enjoy outside of the springs. Enjoy!

It was better when I lived there (1978-83)- The commercialization of 5th Street Public Market was a terrible move; no more feeling of casualness and community flavor.

I am a recent widower and my my mom is currently living with myself and my 3 children. I currently live in the Bakersfield, California area. My kids and I want to move to the area of Eugene ASAP... But we are having a very hard time with someone willing to rent to us. I have a job when I get there at a grain mill, and I have enough money to pay at least 2 or 3 months rent in advance, plus deposit. But finding a home big enough with 4 or 5 bedrooms that we can afford and that the owner is willing to take a chance on... I don't have excellent credit but I do have excellent rental history. Do you think you could help us find a home? We would be okay in Springfield, Creswell, Eugene..!!

With all due respect, I think Eugene is vastly overrated as a good place to live...to be fair, the old 2 hrs to either the coast or the mountains cliche can be said of basically any city in Oregon.... downtown Eugene is completely overrun with aggressive homeless... the riverfront bike paths are also full of sketchy individuals... graffiti everywhere... summers are hot as a blast furnace, usually smoky... very few parks for a city of this size... not many safe roads for cycling... bend or Corvallis are far better choices for outdoor enthusiasts.

@@driftingaway3241 Salem may not be the most beautiful city in the NW, but I would choose it over Eugene, it seems to have more nice neighborhoods, less traffic, less homeless, less graffiti, and the downtown area seems safer than Eugene. Plus it’s much closer to the Portland metro area, which may be appeal to some people. If you were to visit both cities, I think you would agree Eugene is very overrated. Cheers!

However, the things you mention are everywhere in the country and until people decide to start making a difference to help (instead of complaining), it’s not going to change. Those who run our country have no empathy or concern, bc it doesn’t profit them in any way. It’s up to us to help our fellow people that are having a hard time.

Here are some statistics for you to look at: www.census.gov/quickfacts/eugenecityoregon regarding demographics. It's really up to the specific person's experience as to whether they feel comfortable here or not. I would definitely recommend visiting first to see how it feels.

Ever since 1982 I always wanted to live in Eugene but it just never has happened. My HS track team mate ran for Oregon with Alberto Salazar and raced in the Prefontaine Classic a handful of times. He then started Sport Hill a Eugene based company and I've been "jealous" since. LOL But I'm not ruling anything out, I'm going to look into it still. {relocating to Eugene that is} But no move until this virus stuff is over and who knows when that will happen !! But great video.

It really depends on who you talk to. Because of the U of O, Eugene has many people from other parts of the world come (and sometimes stay here). We're pretty used to it. 😊

There's a great website that acts as a directory of the tech businesses in the area: siliconshire.org/ It's a good resource. Plus, there are multiple colleges/Universities in the area to complete your education if you need to. I hope this helps.

Bryn what is the most Affordable part of Eugene? I'm curious cause I'm trying to move there in another week? I'm really looking for Affordable Housing in the area I'm disabled

It really depends on what you're looking for, but overall the most affordable areas in (or near) Eugene are going to be West Eugene (Bethel) or parts of Springfield. If you're looking for a rental, I would conduct your search for the whole area...you may get lucky and find affordable options in various areas. Best of luck to you with your move. Passive aggressive, don't want to work. Act like victims and blame others. Don't want to learn, especially from negative feedback. Have no clue what tough love is. Council member does not get back to me and therefore no representation. Big fish little pond. See what they can get away with. Act like my land is theirs even though I am the one struggling with the property tax, insurance, and potential liabilities. Lack of disclosure laws on buying property. Many, many properties not maintained. Slum lords. Abysmal work conditions - see Glass door web ratings. Enough??
