Born in Bastrop (1946), raised in Monroe. Left at age 18 to join the Marine Corps (1965). Was away for many years. Came back to Monroe in 1974. worked for Monroe P.D. for 5 years before moving back to Calif.. I still come "home" twice a year to see family and resupply the larder with good Southern foods. I liked your report but you left out the high crime in the cons.

Thank you for your service @ TomBoyte. And, I can definitely appreciate the visits for some good Southern food. I know I’ll get the feedback about the crime rate being high and it is. There are still lots of videos of the crime in Monroe. But, those are the only videos I saw. My intent was to share some other pros & cons beyond the crime because no one has shared anything else probably because of those videos. Thank you for the like of the video and I appreciate your critique as well.

I'm from the NELA area and my wife and I graduated from N-L-U in 1984 and my oldest son recently received his MBA from ULM in Dec. 2022. We've lived in Atlanta, GA for the past 34 years and are now retired and actually considered moving back to Ouachita Parish. However, unfortunately, over the years whenever we've return for several days we're reminded of three major reasons we moved away. Heat, humidity and bugs. Financial opportunities was also an initial reason but that's been negated. Our retirement is amazing! You're correct about the housing market in the area. It's a lot better and you get so much more for the money than here in Atlanta. We were astounded at some of the properties that we visited last year and it was hard to walk away from it. Great article though. Enjoyed watching it. Yes, we're a bit homesick.

Come mon’ back home @james! And congrats to your oldest on that MBA! The bugs… I really should say the unidentifiables because you don’t know where these creatures come from. The more country the areas, the more unique they are and crazier the sounds. But, you’re right, real estate here can give you more than some areas especially the bigger cities like ATL. And the income issue has been negated like you’ve said when considering the work from home and virtual opportunities cross country. Sooo many people come back for retirement all over the US. I’ve gotten those calls since I’ve started in Real Estate 17 years ago. Your Retirement sounds sweet to me! I want to be set like you when I do! 🤗 thanks for watching and sharing your experience. And I really appreciate the compliment! Now come mon’ back! 😊

Wow!!! When I do a search on Monroe all I get is hi crime rate. You didn’t even mention it.
@TiffanySmithRealtorAndCoach

Hey @RodDay true. I did not. The crime rates are high and all the other videos have got that covered. This is to share other cons and a few pros in living in Monroe. So many people are still raising families, starting businesses, and constantly moving back home to Monroe despite it. The next person that shares may give 10 more points different than these because of their experience. Of course, they’re all unique. But, I hope this sheds light on what else happens here.

Don’t forget the Rougarou as a positive. They take care of unruly children. I was born in Monroe a long time ago and I knew better than to act up or the Rougarou would get me!

How to find apartment in Monroe
@TiffanySmithRealtorAndCoach
@TiffanySmithRealtorAndCoach Жыл бұрын
@binusingh it’s easiest to check in with the local Rental companies and property managers for an apartment. Otherwise, most complexes in the area will have their signage visible when units are available for rent. But for virtual searches, try the local property management companies.
