Thanks so much for your message of removing plants you don't love. We inherited a terrible garden where only the rubbish plants would thrive on the neglect of the previous owners. But they were green and I really felt bad about removing them until I started watching your videos years ago. Thank you! I now have a garden that I mostly love but have to wait until my husband goes away for at least a couple nights so I can gradually remove the ones that I hate (but he likes - only because they are green).

Go for the pond! I think you'd benefit hugely from having one on the property and you'd use that space so much more. I've got a tiny postage stamp garden and put in a small pond this year and I've never spent more time just sat in the garden drinking my morning coffee, listening to the trickle of water and watching the wildlife. In just the few months it's been there we've had frogs, dragonflies and a host of other insect life. We've had so many birds and even hedgehogs visiting. It feels like it's brought life to my garden and it's a lovely restful spot to spend time in.

The first video I saw of GA was when you and Aaron accidentally dropped the urn. I was scrolling through YT feed, saw the title and said to myself: Well let’s see what trouble these people got themselves into haha AND I was hooked. That was back in 2018 and I was in mourning of losing my Grandma. I haven’t missed a video since. My Grandma loved plants and loved to be in the garden. I have fond memories of helping her weed and water. It never felt like a chore because she always made it seem so pleasant. I truly think my Grandma had something to do with me coming across the fountain video that day. Your videos have become a pleasant part of my weekly routine. Between then and a few years ago, I had gone back to the early videos of this home. Watching the evolution of your garden brings me so much joy. Thank you for sharing the gardening, the antiquing, the family, the smallest of detail. It is very much appreciated. God Bless 💖

Good morning from MI. My partner and I have been growing and learning with Garden Answer for a few years now. We take what we learn from/with Laura and Aaron, and we share it with those who shop in the garden centers we work in. We widely spread awareness of your channel to beginner and expert gardeners in our area. I cannot wait to see your fall container ideas; they’re always my favorite. 🤗 Happy planting.

Laura you mention wanting a "statement piece" of art or something for view from the Hartley...you have wind. Think about a kinetic sculpture to move in your wind. A fellow you tuber Anthony Howe makes statement pieces, did the 2016 Olympics and I believe is in Washington state. No watering, has longevity, will create a view that is one of a kind and moves in wind or breezes. Just a suggestion.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!! I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your teaching me that if I don’t love it…get rid of it. It has been a game changer for me and the love of my garden. Why are we ok to spend $75-$100 on dinner and a movie for one night, but we won’t throw away a $30 plant after months and months of disliking it? Changing the way I think about this has helped me love my space even more and I owe that to you. ❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely love the sound of your vision for a pond there but I just couldn't do it if I where you. I think you are in this amazing position where you have a ton of land, a big beautiful garden and two nature loving babies you can just send out the back door to roam, which is something so valuable that is missing for most families these days, and a pond on the property would turn me straight into a helicopter which just wouldn't end up being worth it to me.

Thank you for your frequent encouragement to remove plants that don't move you. This video perfectly illustrated my recent blowout in one of my gardens. I have a small backyard nursery and 5 years ago I plated several large shrubs that I needed to propagate from. Now those plants are out of vogue, and I am not loving the overgrown shrubs. My husband and I ripped out about 12 different shrubs in the last week, and I'm working on retooling the area. The Grand Garden Tour in Mackinac Island was an inspiration as are your weekly planting videos. I watch these every morning and they really inspire me to do something different in my gardens. Really excited to see what I can make of this space and also to see what you are going to do with the "North" garden!

A water feature would look wonderful! I would suggest a style like you had before, only much bigger, with water running over rocks where Benjamin and Samantha could step on the stones, and you could incorporate plants. I think the sound of the water running over the rocks would add a lot of character to that area and could make it more interactive for your family, while remaining safe and minimizing a lot of maintenance. It could become its own self-sustaining ecosystem, just like The Pond Guy envisioned in your original design, on a larger scale!! Can't wait to see what you create. Whatever it is, it will be beautiful!!

How about using the two urns as your entryway instead of an arch. You could even plant tall skinny arborvitaes in the urn and eventually bring them together to form an arch. The fountain and the third urn could be used as your focal point that you were talking about at the beginning. It could become a planter. It would also be very unique if you ever get a pawn to have that suspended at the water surface like a floating island fountain no one would ever see the damaged area.

Speaking as a kid who grew up on a farm with a big fish pond, I think adding a pond to your garden is *such* a great idea. Your kids will have so much fun playing in and around it as they grow, especially if you plant that area secret garden-style. Every garden should have a few whimsical nooks and crannies where kids can fully immerse themselves in their imaginations and pretend to be somewhere else for a while. ♥️

My tip on ponds: place them very close to seating areas, porches, rooms near your house, never far away or someplace you have "to walk to". Ponds are a lot of work and become just a chore unless you can enjoy them with proximity, often. Exceptions are when you create a true "destination" on your property with a major seating area, a view, etc. that draws you to the pond site often.

I vote YES on pond and also make it large enough to have a bridge. I'm getting Monet's garden vibes from the idea of it, it'd be breath-taking. I always think you should go as big with a pond as you can as once it's filled you shrinks, lol, and it will look more 'natural' if it's larger with a bridge. I'm so excited! I Love that we get to have the excitement for our own gardens as well as the joy of watching yours grow and develop. I'm on board with the boxwood removal now as well (tho I'd have saved them and used them in a fun way on your new 'rough' bit of land. Just a long hedge to be a starting point for something, even if it just flanks future parking.

Yes to placement of Urns! Water feature in the back would be a great attraction especially for the kids! I always like looking at your designs on paper , it helped me when I did my backyard!!

Oh, Laura, those urns look great in the south garden. I hope you’re going to plant the yuccas in the ground out there. They will be beautiful. They obviously love your climate and they have a good root system already. I think they’ll be magnificent out there….interesting foliage and beautiful tall blooms…..and no maintenance!😊🦋💖🕊

I agree! They should plant them in the ground somewhere out there. They look a bit tired in those urns.

I agree the yuccas should be groomed and planted in the south garden. But no maintenance is not the case in my z5 no. Ill garden because our winters cause the bottom to lose all color and wind up looking just like Laura’s. It’s a big job each spring to remove them. And they come off one at a time unless they are years old and a different variety. Our flower stems hit six foot tall, plant foliage about three. Beautiful tho.

you are one strong woman, wow! concrete and yuccas are heavy!! 😁i love where you placed the urns... so many exciting things happening all the time... so fun to hear your plans and watch the changes... love those roses, too... and a bridge, definitely a bridge - the kids would love it and it would look fabulous!!! ❤❤ y'all move at lightning speed getting things done even though i know it doesn't feel that way to you, but the amount of work happening in the last couple of years is amazing!! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤

Have you ever thought of creating a circular labyrinth that both you, Aaron and the children could enjoy? Having one could add another layer of interest to the garden.

Did anyone else notice, Aaron sat on the tractor while Laura moved/placed the urns? This just ain't no helpless little lady! Love this!

To get that “tucked in” look you just about have to have that “perched” look for a couple of seasons. I think that will look simply beautiful . Very good eye 👍🏼

Seeing the beautiful rose you showed us makes me realize how much I have missed seeing a video of you doing a floral arrangement. I don’t think you have done one this summer. Love your videos

I think you guys for sure need a wildlife pond in that corner. Maybe even with some koi. Nice and deep for wintering over. Beautiful bridge going over it and allowing you to be above the fish! Gorgeous! Highly recommend!

Hi Laura! I was Team Aaron on removing the boxwoods, so yay! I think it would be awesome if you could consult with Jack Barnwell on what to do with the north garden once it is cleared out. That would be a great show to watch! Not saying you wouldn't make it amazing, but the two of you designing a space would be epic!

A pond is a great idea. You don’t have one anywhere else and it is the only thing missing.

You are so right about taking out something that is just not working in the garden. We inherited a prostrate conifer with the house, four years later I am sick of trying to keep it under control and get to some brambles growing though it. So out it came and Iowa have a nice large space to fill with drought tolerant plants that will thrive.😍😎🇫🇷
