Grew up surfing in San Clemente, CA and came to Oahu through the US Coast Guard way back in 1979. It immediately became my home (and still is, love Hawaii) and within six months moved to Haleiwa and then moved to a beach house inbetween Rocky Rights and Gas Chambers Lefts. I wasn’t in the Coast Guard the whole time as I got out in 1981 and surfed the North Shore until 1987. Watching this video showed me how much more commercialized the North has become! The North Shore back then was very country. Now, it is starting to look like town, sad. Keep the country, country! Please!

Lived in Hawaii back in the 80s for 4 years. First experience with reverse discrimination. I enjoyed my time there and didn’t let it bother me. I pretty much did what I wanted and liked the foods I was introduced to. I was 37 years old at the time. Left in 1990 and never looked back.

Brah, it’s a long bike ride from Waialua to Haleiwa. When the last Eddie went, I was staying out at my buddy Kepa Lyman’s house, last house out at Kaena Pt, and we rode bikes from there to Waimea. Had to have his sister Aala come pick us up afterwards, cause we weren’t about to peddle back. But we rode bikes because the traffic was too insane from the Eddie being a go.

Love the shirt Derek. We’re you prior CG? Semper Paratus!. I’m a first time visitor last month. My family and I rented a place on sunset beach for two week and we absolutely fell in love with the place. I served in the CG and have a few shipmates that retired there as they fell in love with the islands. I definitely see why. Ever since our vacation, I have been obsessed with watching videos about the north shore, from surfing to real estate videos. Glad I found your channel. Please explain the ...Keep the Country ..Country slogan. What does it mean? When you sell real estate, how does this fit in with your beliefs?
@movingtohawaii
@movingtohawaii Жыл бұрын
The other half of selling is buying. People buying in the country tend to want to preserve/foster that country feeling. That’s why they choose to live in the country. We find this is the case in most of our residential real estate transactions here. Now if you’re talking about commercial real estate, that’s a different story.

Unlike most, I am actually more interested in the western Mokuleia and Waialua areas over the Haleiwa area simply for the less congestion. If you can find it, 5 Summer Stories/Endless Summer are better representations of Hawaiian Surf culture...IMO. ESPN/30 for 30 has story of Eddie Aikau=Eddie Would Go. Movies based on James Michner's novels... Hawaii/The Hawaiians gives short history of Hawaii. IMO...North Shore is white-washed, bastardized version of Hawaii representation. But..."Nobody listens to Turtle!"

Kahako is not considered a letter, itʻs a macron. The correct pronunciation of Paʻalaʻa is with the ʻokina, however, with the influence of pidgin and English, many born/raised north shore residents say Paʻala, or Wailua (omitting the second a in pronunciation). Haliʻi Maile pronounced HAILEY MAILEE is because of English influence and any Hawaiian language speaker would pronounce it correctly. Letʻs learn and do better in speaking olelo so the next generations can carry on the correct names and moʻolelo of our places and community.

I hear you that you’d like to see some shorter ones. In terms of teaching KZfaq growth, what topic are your other KZfaq channels on where you have thousands of subs?

@@movingtohawaii why are you throwing shade? just say outright you have more subscribers than me. that has nothing to do with anything. im saying its pretty common sense that shorter youtube videos generally receive more interaction/do better overall most likely having to do with attention span. i see videos of yours interesting decent titles and then see the length of the video and dont want to click it. what do you want from me? i gave you the truth. why are you offended. im essentially saying you can put less effort (make shorter videos requiring less work) and potentially get more views/$ but yes insult me

@@LinkTheKink nah man so there’s AVD, APV, CTR… there are these metrics and length can actually be a very important thing because this platform is for longer attention spans as compared to IG/TT. So we’ve intentionally gone long because YT sells more ads when people watch for long. Also, we’re trying to sell houses and help people move, not get more views and subs. If we went down the sub game we’d prob be at 20k+. Don’t mean to be entirely insulting, but for me I make it a principal to try not to give advice on things I haven’t accomplished. That’s all ❤️🤙🏽
