Since the original 50" deck from my 318 was long gone and I sold the 46" deck that came with it, I searched high and low for another period-correct 50" deck for the tractor, and ended up buying three of them within a month of each other.
The first one ended up going on the '89 318. The second one was found on Craigslist and was not far from my buddy Tyler, so he picked it up for me and I got it from him the following week at his plow day. That deck ended up needing a rebuild as the spindle bearings and several of the welds were bad, so I sold it - the parts would have cost more than the deck was worth. A few days later, I found yet another 50" deck about two hours away in very good condition. It came with the Powerflow mounting hardware and pulley as well as new Gator mulch blades. Only issue with it was a crack in the front lip from the blade hitting it at one time in the past. I brought it home, straightened out and welded the crack up front, and sold the Powerflow mounting hardware and pulley off of it.
After adjusting the PTO clutch on the 318, I got the deck installed with a new primary (PTO) belt, and (with a little hesitation) the deck roared to life and mowed quiet and smooth. First time in over 15 years the Onan engine had actually been put under a load, so that definitely woke it up. Aside from dethatching the yard back in April, this was the first significant work load this tractor had handled in a very long time. Had a few hiccups along the way, but it turned out to be one of the nicest mowing decks I've ever had, and now it's replaced the X570 for mowing our two yards at home. The X570 now gets used for my other mowing accounts with rougher yards.
I purchased a magnetic mount for my GoPro and attached it to several different areas on the tractor while shooting this video, rather than mounting it on my head like I usually do. Let me know which views you like best...I'll be sure to use them for future videos.
