Doodle would be incredible to counter Ceruledge/Megaman since their signature move is fire type but their ability is Flash Fire. You effectively make your ally immune to fire, which is awesome if they were weak to fire to begin with.

Honestly, I really like the doodle move, because there are pokemon that are carried by their abilities, so, copying their ability when they are in the right sittuation can be quite good. For example, if you are against a rain team and they send out a pokemon with swift swim to outspeed and ko a pokemon that is a threat to their team, like a pokemon that has a superefective move against them, you can doodle swift swim, and then your pokemon takes out one of their sweepers, or copy a pokemon's flash fire to become inmune to their heat waver or eruptions. It's niche, but that type of niche that one doesn't expect and leaves you like "Huh? Didn't think about that. Well played"

It overwrites your allied Poke'mon ability. What wasn't mentioned was Poke'mon hindered by their abilities that otherwise makes them powerful. Examples: Slaking and Regigigas. Would be a shame if your opponent had something like Huge Power as an ability and you gave that to your own Slaking or Regigigas.

Doodle doesn't just have to be a gimmick to ditch bad abilities, it can also be used for some fun tech when your other Pokemon has something like Intimidate that only pops once upon entering the field. And if the new abilities that benefit from sun and electric terrain become central to the meta, you can steal them and use their setup against them.

Something I really wanna explore is Spidops. Silk Trap and Sticky Webs means maybe it could have a notable role as support mon? 404 base stats is so mid tho but I just LOVE it’s design and the fact it’s a spidery spy operative makes me happy.

so glad to see an aye-aye pokemon finally. that being said it certainly is a niche pick but i think it could get some work done, doodle like you mentioned seems like it'll be nice intimidate spam, and you can do it over and over. switcheroo i think will have some use with iron ball since prankster nullifies the items effects on grafaiai and unlike scary face it's permanent for that battle. halfing a pokemons speed is crippling in the fast pace meta.

Have you had a look at Flamigo? It's a really interesting 'mon because of its Costar ability. Just looking at that ability, what immediately jumps out to me is putting it on a team centred around the Coalossal Steam Engine + WP strat. And tbh, I think that's just barely scratching the surface of what Flamigo could potentially do on other teams. Would love to hear your input about one of Gen 9's most interesting new additions.

Steam Engine Coalossal Tera into rock, flip turn with Zero to Hero Finizen into Coal, activate weakness policy and steam engine, bring out Costar Flamigo. Both Coalossal and Flamigo now at +2 Attack, +2 Special Attack, +6 Speed.

@@Earthworm_Zim tbh mate, upon testing and running damage calcs, it's quite difficult to get the Coalossal thing to work this generation. It worked last generation because of Gigantamax Coalossal could take the hit from its partner. Even the old partner of a 0IV Speed, Jolly Dragapult using Surf, it does way way too much damage.

I think he’s gonna be great, especially with doodle. When those paradox Pokes see competitive, he gonna even the playing field with doodle. Also, because of his high speed, even if he uses doodle and loses prankster, he can still taunt Grimsnarrl or tera into an electric, ground, or dark type to avoid Thunder wave or prankster moves

Flamigo and Spidop. These are 2 very early game Pokemon, one is a level 15 final form and the other doesn't evolve, so it mitigates spoiler risk. Lechonk's evolutions and Wooper's evolution after that maybe, since they're slightly higher level evolutions

I think doodle is a great tool to counter any weather based teams for example I'm going to make both of my pokemon swift swimmers And effectively modify their speed advantage the same thing works for a slush rush Is sandrush and chlorophyll

Doodle, if played correctly, could completely mess up any protosynthesis, quark drive, or weather-boosting ability mons. Being able to copy abilities on the fly with priority is gonna end up being way more than a gimmick imo. Imagine being able to swap an Excadrill’s sand rush for chlorophyll against, like, a venusaur/torkoal lead. I think exca is faster off the top of my head, don’t quite remember though, but i think you get the idea!

I run Grafaiai with Doodle (for ability-copying shenanigans), Poison Fang (to badly poison foes), Slash (Normal STAB and boosted crit), and Bite (coverage against Psychic and Ghost).

Isn't slaking in the game? Could do a doodle set with him, or with regigigas when he gets added. An alternative to weezing for that strat, and might actually be better as you can't get rid of it by knocking grafaiai out, and might give them both something helpful

I will say Grafaiai is the only prankster to get copycat. For example: v.s. trickroom Turn 1. Grafaiai uses helping hand while your sweeper attacks the enemy redirect mon. Enemy uses TR Turn 2. Grafaiai uses Copycat, it's prankster speed and copies the last move used, which was TR. So you disable trickroom at prankster speed. I don't know about how armor tail works yet. But since copycat doesn't target an enemy specifically psychic terrain doesn't disrupt it.

Only other semi viable use for Doodle that I could pull off is copying Sun abusing abilities as Sun is kind of big this gen. But still very matchup reliant and not at all consistent

Do you feel Slaking's ability should be slightly altered slightly. Considering they introduced a new mon was introduced this gen with such close stats, but its ability is like a slap on the wrist compared to Slaking's inability to be used at all. I actually assumed they brought it back to change that, but seems its still unusable.

Other abilities (other than Intimidate) I think Doodle could be worth copying.... - Flash Fire, Storm Drain, Lightning Rod, Thick Fat, Friend Guard, etc. (basically defensive options) - Swift Swim, Slush Rush, etc. (take advantage of opponent's strategy) - Protosynthesis + Quark Drive (only helpful if Sunny Day or Electric terrain is out) - Prankster (specifically copying OTHER Prankster mons. Combine this with a Spore user to give them priority sleep. Would probably want give Grafaiai Unburden so you could Doodle Grimmsnarl) - Huge Power, Adaptability, Protean, etc. (anything to increase damage output) - Competitive, Defiant, Clear Body, Inner Focus, etc. (protect from stat drops, flinching, etc.) - Moxie (try to build up momentum in sweeping) - Unaware (ignore opponent's stat increases) - Beads/Sword/etc. of Ruin (do these stack?) Some of these are super situational, but I feel there may be enough of them to come up often enough. I could see this mon being really good once the meta settles when people know what to expect. Also people already mentioned pairing this with Slaking which could be interesting if you give him a Clear Amulet

as for the next mon id like to see, toadscruel is very interesting to me. yeah its ability is whack but rage powder still has priority and trick room goes last anyway. spore is still good as heck.

Doodle has more potential than you mentioned and I'm sure Grafaiai will find a use for it. After all something you forgot to mention is overwriting BAD allied Poke'mon abilities. Things like Truant, Defeatist, Klutz, Slow Start, ECT. However even if your allied Poke'mon ability is mediocre or even decent sometimes giving it something more beneficial that just happens to be used by your opponent is still a net gain.

By the item description I would say no An item to be held by a Pokémon. This cute and rather unique-looking shield protects the holder from having its Ability changed by others. As you see it say others, so Doodle by being a self move won't be affected

It's certainly not better than neutralizing gas believe me. The benefit of gas wasn't only the fact it enables regigigas, but that it stopped intimidate, terrain surge, chlorophyll, etc. And it didn't require you to use a turn ti set it up

@UCOzooCABUn-q4On8rH_LHJA yes, but in VGC you want to be able to switch out regigias or the gas benefitter rather than kind of lock yourself down. Flexibility is what you want. That's why regigias top cut events only after weezing existed. We've always had stuff like gastro acid or worry seed whimsicott, but it was never viable due to the 1 turn set up being far too risky and preventable
