I have this on a Soviet Melodiya CD from 1990 which is together with the concerto for 3 pianos, F major, KV242. It is one of my favourite discs. Luckily, I didn't make mistake to leave it with my ex wife. ;-)

Agreed. A lot of his early works have a certain character to them that was lost later in his artistic development. Happened to a lot of great composers.

There are a lot of 'experts' in the classical music world who really don't seem to know what they're talking about. Honestly at this point I have a hard time taking anyone with a degree in composition or musicology seriously, because the truth is just because have studied scores does not make their aesthetic taste better than yours or mine.

I'm guessing that, as a practical matter, opportunities to have two pianos together for performances were rare in Mozart's time, so demand for double piano concertos wasn't huge. Just a guess.

bayreuth79 Ok you sso right, but... Chopin is a so serious rival. For me, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin are the best. There is no discussion that Mozart is so much better than them, because he composed at earliest age, a lot of more works than them(counting the time he lived), he staied more time with music than others, so much dedication, so much memory, so less errors... I could keep saying more things that make him better. For exemple, Beethoven and Chopin, copied, over all Beethoven, various melodies of Wolfgang... Also Haydn, that lived and composed before him, copy some of his melodies and style in some pieces... Bach... Bach was a genius, but didn't take risks. Here music presents a similarity that reveals the coward soul of Bach. Then... Mozart Over. And in second place maybe there is Beethoven, for his deaf, and his warrior spirit, that won all his problems with his music... Chopin for creativity and constance win the third place. Schumann Liszt and others copied her style. So Bach is fourth. Others artists stay lower.

Why rivals? Why everything has to be a competition? True music isn't like that... Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and so many others have been paving together the route to the soul. Fortunately all composers are without equal. Each have their own personality and style!

This is something all of us never know about.Fanny Mendelssohn asked his well known brother Felix to include some of her composition in the collections of songs without words.I wonder how many of the 62 songs without words are by Fanny Mendelssohn.But Fanny did published some of her works.The most brilliant one is her 4 movements piano trio.A absolutely outstanding composition.

I like to think I also have my Beethoven days as well (the piano concerto no. 5 - Emperor, his symphonies and the sonatas more than justify your choice). Just as I have my Rimsky-Korsakov summer days, my Tchaikovsky winter afternoons, my Chopin nights rsrrsrs, my Haendel wee hours.... And eventually I'll go back to Mozart at daybreak. In truth, EVERYONE knows (just as the aforementioned all did) that the REAL MASTER of ALL MELODIES was Herr Johann Sebastian :D and sooner or later, one fine morning we're all going to realize that HE had them all rsrsrsrsr I also like to think the tinkly tinkly arpeggios were not really Mozart's choice as much as they were ornaments in demand in those Viennese days, and like everyone else in the Holy Roman Empire , Herr Mozart had to bow and play by the rules so as to be able to make a living. ​@@rehaylock5199 Beethoven's music is full of arpeggios, "tinkly" or otherwise. A lot of his most famous tunes he borrowed from Mozart anyways. The slow movement melody of his Pathetique sonata, for example, was lifted right out of Mozart's c minor piano sonata k.457 second movement, for example and the Ode to Joy theme? One need look no further than Mozart's early sacred work Misericordias Domini, K. 222.

Noe Berengena I completely disagree with all due respect. Methods in detailing faces have improved drastically since those classic portraits of him were done live. Mozart was well known to be very handsome despite what the painters could capture.
