This. Is. Like watching everything that random about humans all in one video. It's an ancient instrument playing classical music and it sounds like a futuristic space machine and someone put all of that together in one video and shared it with other humans and none of it makes sense and it's AWESOME

Hi, what kind of jaw harp is this? Probably expensive so a better question would be what you'd recommend for a beginner jaw harpist who wants something better than a 10$ one Also is there a purpose of switching between two harps or is it just a cool thing to do? Thanks in advance :]

Listen to the video, and you can see why he switches between two harps. Each individual harp is only able to create a single fundamental tone, but by altering the shape of your mouth, you can change the pitch of the overtone, as can be heard in the first few seconds. Then, when he changes to the second harp, you can hear a change in the fundamental tone. Same for the others. One harp per note. Though the melody line that's a bit hard to hear (in the overtones) I'm pretty sure is more related to the shape of your mouth rather than which harp you're using. At first, I thought that the overtones were limited to the harmonic series of the harp's fundamental, but I don't think that's the case. So ultimately he's just switching between harps to change the bass.

This is not real, the fundamental switches at 0:18 without him switch harp, which is impossible. And before the cut in 0:40 hi has the top left harp in his mouth and after is the middle one.

@@nonenoneonenonenone the jaw harp is simply an instrument. It offers a universe of sounds. There are different traditions and styles. The virtuoso style on the multiple jaw harp is also used for traditional music in Austria. Some classical composers wrote for it: Johann Heinrich Hörmann, Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, Ferdinand Kauer, Wenzel Müller. There are so many interactions and synergies between composed court music and traditional music in 17th and even more in 18th century. So call it stupid, I call it : music!

Dear "None*, I know this very discussed probleme in english language. In english I use normally also the much nicer terme "Jaw harp", but this is a not very common word for this instrument. So for the title I prefer jew's harp. And usually I call it "Maultrommel"

@@paulusa6 It´s the same like with "Gypsy stew" (cikánská pečeně in czech), which is - as you can imagine - a bit...problematic for some. But it was used looong time ago. So I guess this is the same issue. Also LOVE your performance!
