I sang 'The Lacrimosa' to my mother who was at repose in the funeral home. I know her soul had long departed but it seemed the right thing to do at the time.

@@EssentialClassicsI think this is a bad choice. First of all because we dont read a book from chapter 7, we also dont begin a mass from the end, It disrupts the liturgical flow and the intended progression of themes and emotions. Just as in a conversation you will not begin that deep. The Lacrimosa is a reflection on the day of wrath and the sorrow of the deceased, it's a response to themes introduced earlier in the mass. Starting with it disconnects it totally from the thematic development that precedes it and it makes it feel out of place. You can also not be that sad before the Dies irae, that doesn't mean anything.
